Default Internal shock springs

I spent a Saturday afternoon looking for some springs that would fit inside my Associated shocks to do some full droop testing. I found too big, too stiff, too small, too soft. Finnally found some pretty close to perfect set up all 4 shocks....sheesh a little too stiff.

So... I can see what I need to do, make my own springs.

After about an hour learning curve I can now make a set of 4 matching spings in about 15 minutes.

I found piano wire works just fine, here is the diameter I found that works for my rig.

.015 soft
.020 med.
.025 firm

I used a top shaft out of a tranny that had some holes drilled in it, then switched to a old RC10 nose brace tube.
The shaft is .190 and the spring expanded to .300 so it almost double in size.

Wind the whole 3ft piece of piano wire tightly together,

WARNING! if you use a motorized device to wind and are using your hand stop when there is about 1 or 2 inches left or the end will tear up your fingers.

You should have about a 1 inch coil.

I wanted 4 -1" long springs. I grabbed the spring at each end and streached it out carefully to 5" then slid it over a tube and compressed it, it relaxed back to 4 inches or so. I cut the desired 1" springs from the 4" spring.

Use the whole piece of piano wire and remember how much you streach it out and you can duplicate the springs.

I like the .020, I have a complete set of .015 .020 .025 soft to firm.

They are holding up nice, been running them for a while now.
I replaced the silicone tube for shock stops on the outside with some .025 springs.
Also still running internal springs. Setup works good for me.

I have a specialty shop in town here and I found a very nice selection of internal springs. I would be more than happy to send you a set or two if needed. I am using them for my setup I am testing now.

Thanks Gimbal,
I got the battery pretty low in fact I am thinking of a tray design made of delron so it will slide better

Franky, thanks but I got this spring thing figured out and I always enjoy running stuff I made a little more than buying it.
