I wish we had a Harbor Freight around here. I'm out in the boonies as far as luxuries in store choice. We just got a Wal-Mart about 4 years ago. Justin |

My store had it priced at 16.99. SO I printed out the page you linked above and took it to them. Without question they matched it. Funny thing is I was looking at my friends the other day thinking to myself, I should get one. |

This is a perfect example of you get what you pay for. Look, do yourself a favor and pass on this junk. Because it's junk. |

I have always found that some HF tools are fine for the hobbyist that plans on using the item occasionally. If it's something that you need 100% accuracy 100% of the time, quality is the only way to go. But for the few times I will use this, it will be perfect.

It says it accurate to half a thou. Even if its only accurate to 5 thou thats good enough for hobby use. I have a similar cheap 12" that I compared to my friends Mitutoyo and it was always within .0015". Not fantastic but good enough for my use.

i have this exact one. i got it from my LHS for 15$. they are alright but it has its moments when its completely off, and these are not precise when you measure things like bearings, shims, and other small stuff. the battery dies verry quick also.. HF is a good store but i wouldnt recommend this one if you are measuring very small items. you get what you pay for.

I bought a pair of these over a year ago, because they were so cheap.. and so far they have been as reliable as my $90 mitutoyo calipers at work. Maybe its a case of hit or miss but mine have done what I needed. Also, while they might claim accuracy of .0005 what they mean is display resolution of .0005. As a general rule I don't depend on readings from calipers smaller than .001-.002. If you need a more accurate measurement than a thou get a set of micrometers. my 2¢ |

Mine had some issues today. It would display 0.750" as 0.73x". It was really cold in the shop so they might be affected by that.

I bought one and the first measurement was off, so I bought some mitutoyos through my dads work. $110 but well worth it!

About a year ago I bought that exact one from my Matco dealer ('cept mine says "Matco" on it. Paid $25 for it on sale. Been very reliable, though it did go through that first battery pretty quickly. Plus its got some type of cable port on it. Never did try to find out what it was for...

Had mine for 9 months now, not a single issue with it. I do buy alot of smaller tools from HF they are cheap, but its like bachelor pad furniture, you can always replace it at the next garage sale!

mine stays in my tool box and goes everywhere with me. the only time it acts up is when the battery is low but i think thats pretty normal for anything that uses batteries
