| Cobra Motor Lathe, any other uses?
I have a family member that gave me this lathe. It works, I have not used it to turn a motor yet. Will I be the village idiot if I try to turn anything but a motor on it? I saw a few people who had turned down shock bodies and thought this might be able to do it? |

It probably won't have the torque to turn aluminum unless you have a really really sharp bit and don't mind spending an hour on each shock. Keeping the shock body in place will be one hurdle. The next will be getting the bit to travel far enough to even lathe half the shock length. The third is that you will need to suspend the shock body in the cradle, you will need to make a shaft and bushing setup to hold the body in a way that works with the lathe. Impossible? No. Easy? No. |
