Re: Lets see your handmade tools! 3 Attachment(s) Here are a few of the tools I made when I had accessed to a shop. I sure miss it..... If I still did I would be making all kinds of the parts I want. I really want to get more of my trusses made up. |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! Not even comparable to your tools, but here's my bender http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/...i/IMG_2092.jpg http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/...i/IMG_2091.jpg |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! looks like mine!"thumbsup" |
I've made bunches of tools and fixtures but these are just a few of my RC related tid bits that clutter my bench: http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/ujesa7up.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/5anemu9a.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/eda2eve7.jpg Yes basically it's an indicator base, I got the idea measuring stuff at work lol. This is just a quick and dirty not so accurate base ;) couple lock collars and a scrap chunk of steel. I've been using it with my scale to compare shock springs. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/u4udypa7.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/e6apehy9.jpg Made my own soldering jig because I couldn't stomach $30 for a store bought model. Actually comes in handy, more than I thought it would. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/a8yha5y3.jpg Assembly tool for EC3 plugs. I've got one for EC5s drawn up but haven't made it yet. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/usenubus.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/9ebe4a9a.jpg Broke down and bought myself a set if good hex drivers for my bench. Made an organizer with provisions for another chunk of plastic behind for the dynamite but drivers if I can ever afford them lol. Sent from my iPhone using autocorrect |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! 6 Attachment(s) Here's a bender I made from 1/2" keystock and some mild steel. |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! 1 Attachment(s) happymachinist, What material did you use for the jig? Do you have a cad file you would be willing to share? |

Re: Lets see your handmade tools! Could the tool be an electronics project? I just built a "device" that allows me to cycle electronic fuel injectors for a 1 or 5 second pulse, or with the flip of a switch it can cycle as long as I push the button. |

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/23/qydu2yby.jpg Got my link bender somewhat complete this weekend. It's basic as of yet for bending solid links but I have provisions in the works for tubing. Sent from my iPhone using autocorrect |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! Is it set for one width, or are the bolts in the 2 top plates cam style? |
The wider plate towards the top of the picture has slotted holes to acomidate 1/16"-1/4" rod. I plan on making a variety of rollers or handles based on what I need bent in the future. Sent from my iPhone using autocorrect |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! broke down and made a bender today. had all of the materials in the shop so why not. it's not a very flashy unit, but i won't have to make it again. used 5/8" steel plate for the base, 3/8" hardware for the bending pins (tapping that plate was a pain). some random stock for the arm, and some 5/8" aluminum rod around the main bolt as a spacer. forgive the crap welds on the arm pin, i haven't touched a welder in years, and stacking old rod and galvanized on top of that is just a mess. and the lock washer is just there for moral support, couldn't find anymore normal washers in my bolt bucket. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps341185c2.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps44ec5daa.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps75cf4f63.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps5ce5861f.jpg this is 3/16" tubing, i usually fill tube with packed salt to help with support, this was done empty, so not bad for me. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps76ca1dff.jpg |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! i'll post this here too: decided that i needed a new solder spool holder a couple days ago. had a sheet of .064 aluminum laying around and figured why the hell not. hand beat the bends (forgot how much easier a box and pan is) and then delrin spreaders. not esd safe (working on that part, got lazy, didn't want to cut 3/4" aluminum round stock), but it works better than the fishing box i was using. i may round the corners, but its a really comfortable thing to use. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44515.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44516.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44517.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44518.jpg one side is loaded with .062 kester water wash, and the other side is loaded with .020 kester no clean, both leaded. i keep the lead free separate, i rarely have myself spec lead free on projects. EDIT: modified it for quicker spool changes. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44533.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44532.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44531.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...2769-44530.jpg |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! I like it. I would round the corners...might save you from a scraped wrist. |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! so far it hasn't been a problem with how i rest my arm on it, i probably will round them when i can get back to the shed. |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! A simple tool to clean up revo or similar style rodends. I cut four grooves along the length of a revo ball end and simply screwed it to a piece of aluminum pipe. A minute or so in a hand drill and it completely frees the rod end and ball without changing the size of the socket. http://i487.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8df0aefe.jpg |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! a tool of sorts, old suryerer's tripod (5 dollars at the thrift store) and some spare aluminum rod, boom. nice camera tripod that actually works really well for about 10 bucks and some time. tuning the clamp screws to get it perfect took some time, cleaning, and blue loctite, but i saved money. old point and shoot used for pictures, the brass adapter is uses standard 1/4"-20 threading for mounting http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps7e283144.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse01be4b5.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps9117df95.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps0a34cab9.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...psd62389b7.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps63c4a224.jpg without the handle, it could get a bit touchy on pan and tilt, with the handle, dead smooth after a few adjustments. sometimes the best things are salvage parts and time. |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! Very nice score on the tripod! FYI for everyone, almost all cameras use 1/4"-20 thread to mount.... in case you want to build your own mount. |
Re: Lets see your handmade tools! Wife got me a new BBQ for our new place and I decided to buy some steaks to do on the grill. Realized I didn't have a tenderizer... After work, spent a few minutes to write a program on the lathe and 20-30 mins on the Bridgeport spent squaring up the stock and figuring out the grooves, drill and tap the bottom an viola! Nice weight to it, just under 2" square on the face. Other side is flat. Handle could be a little longer and larger diameter but it works. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3341-44659.jpg |
