Axial universals repair I ordered a new set of XR10 uni's for a scaler mod and one of them came really tight. So tight that I used a flat blade screw driver to try to open up the ears on the main shaft. With a light bump of the heal of my hand, the ear snapped. Has anyone tried to repair this problem??? I don't have access to a welder, but I do have a mapp/oxy setup. |
Re: Axial universals repair I don't like your chances welding them prob just put and ad in wanted for the side you need |
Re: Axial universals repair yeah I repaired mine with MIP shafts "thumbsup" .... |
Re: Axial universals repair I'll look into MIP. Didn't know they made them. Thanks. |
Re: Axial universals repair I still would like to know if the stock uni's are repairable. |
Re: Axial universals repair If they are so brittle that they broke with a little prying, they would never survive welding. Best bet would be to call or email Axial. They might have mercy on you and send you out the broken part. |
Re: Axial universals repair Apparently your not clear on my problem. One of the tabs/ears broke off the main shaft. |

Re: Axial universals repair When I was narrowing a set of AR60 axles for a 1/6th Jeep build, I snapped off an ear for the u-joint, just as you described. I used an Oxy/Acetylene torch and silicon bronze rod to re-attach it. I only drove the Jeep maybe a dozen times before selling it, but the repair held, much to my amazement. |
Re: Axial universals repair brazing would be the way to fix it without risking stress fractures from the heat affected zone of welding. Silicon bronze or silver braze filler would likely be the best choices. |
