Hobby vise on 'roids

Just thought I'd share a recent find.

I've got two bench vises and a wood vise on my carport workbench, but had been looking for a hobby sized vise for my indoor RC bench. I tried the common 'hobby' vise, but it is just too flimsy for filing/grinding/cutting anything more substantial than styrene.

I saw this in Harbor Freight, and it fits the bill perfectly. Yeah, I know about 'Horrible Freight' tools. You have to take them for what they are and what you intend to use them for. Some are gems, some not worth taking home.

It comes with a 'C' clamp for mounting, but my bench is too thick for that, so I cut off the throat of the clamp so I could mount it. The holes are already in the base.

I also dissembled it to clean up flashings, tighten up everything and grease the shafts, and ended up with a nice little hobby vise, adjustable on two axis, for under $30. No more trips to the carport for simple RC filing, grinding and cutting jobs.

I have a plain ol 4" vise I use for everything R/C with no troubles at all....

Not everything at Harbor Freight is crap, I've found some decent tools there, recently a drill press vice and a bandsaw.

X2 you can weed through the junk there are many decent things there.

Thanks for the heads up, I bought one this afternoon with the 20% off coupon. The fact that it spins and has smooth and rough jaws sold me.

Ya agree, their hand tools have a lifetime warranty too! I saw a sign displayed in a HF store!
