Default 14.4v esc NOT evx switch to one 6cell pack?

I have an Emaxx I am thinking about turning it into a crawler.
I've read the threads on how to change the EVX esc so it will work with
just one 6 cell battery pack.
My Emaxx must be an older version, it doesn't have the EVX (which is orange)
my esc is all black.
Can i modify mine like the EVX to work with just one 6 cell pack without tearing it up or shorting it out?

Thanks

I don't know how to link to it, go on the main forum page under "TECH", scroll down and you will find a pic of an EVX and what you are looking for is there.

Yes it still has the twin motors.
I intend to convert it to one 55t lathe motor if and when I can get someone to tell me if I can do the EVX conversion on my esc.
Remember, I said I DON"T HAVE the evx version (orange) I have an earlier version that is black.
Thanks

If it still uses the twin battery setup it should basically be the same as this.http://www.rccrawler.com/evx.htm

Thanks but I've read that thread already and my esc is different.
Mine is a VX-12 not a EVX and mine doesn't have a light that comes on when you plug either of the battery packs in so I can't tell which side I need to put the jumper on.
And yes, I know there was a Traxxas factory recall on "all" VX-12 esc's.
But I got this one in a trade from someone and its not new, it was used, so its an earlier version and didn't get the updated esc from Traxxas.
So I'm basically stuck with what I have and I don't want to spend a fortune to equip the truck with a more expensive esc.
Thanks DC

yo don't really need the light, just hook up a bat to it, which ever side runs the steering will be the BEC side.
