Emaxx Tranny Keep It Two Speed or Go Single Im going to biuld my self a crawler useing a Emaxx tranny I have and was wondering what you guys do with them. The land that I will probably be using it on isnt all rocks so I though of keeping the two speed for a bit more wheel speed between rocks. But first I thought I would ask what you guys do about the two speed. Thanks Tupers |
I think that you should go with a single speed. You can gear it to have enough wheel speed and also to keep it slow in the rocks. The change in the 2 speeds isn't very much anyway. So I say go single speed. Krystopher |
It would be cool to be able to shift to 2nd and nail it when you wanted some more speed. but... the problem with keeping the 2 speeds is there is a TON of slop. Way to much slop for a crawler in my opinion. If you let off the throttle on an uphill climb, it will roll back about a foot before all the gears get lined up and engaged again. Id keep it locked into one gear or another. Its a stout tranny. I run one, but mines locked into gear. |
Single speed is all you need. Check out GorrillaMaxx for a clean single speed conversion and a single motor mount... http://www.gorillamaxx.com/ |

Funny I have three rigs with e-maxx trannies in them and once you stop on a uphill they dont roll back. They do however have about 2-4 inches of roll on a level surface, and that's depending on your tire size. |

roll down i still have the two speed tranny i like the idea or a little burst of speed . I to have the freewheelen under no power i just set the trim up or down bepending on going up or down hill , |
Thanks for all the help guys. I've decided that Im going to keep it two speed for the moment, but lock it in one gear useing a colet on the gear change shaft. That way I can test it in both gears to see wich one is better for my kind of terrain. Thanks again for all the help. Hopfully I will be able to do a biuld thread once I have a few other things done and out the way. Tupers |
