SiCkPuPPy's TRX-garage.

Hello guys and gals :)

I'm new to the forum and also new to crawling.
But since I bought a trx-4 second hand some time ago I've fallen for this hobby.

First let me get the info on the trx-4.

Chassis - Stock TRX-4
Body - Modded from stock to crew-cab (more to come)
Motor - Castle Creation 2280kv slate 1900 brushless sensor motor
Batteries - Traxxas 3cell LiPo 4000MAH
ESC - Mamba X
BEC - Castle
Winch - 10V Warner
Steering servo - Savox SV-1270TG running @ 7.4V
Aluminium steering arm
Drive train - Stock axles but ned axle housings from TFL.(pictures to come later on).

I'm going to use the first post as a "post it", meaning that I'll put some links and reminders for myself in here..:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpIoLgmI1xw <---- Programming the FlySky GT3c 8ch transmitter
Alternative servo(without changing BEC) - Hitec hs-8380th

Lets take a look at how it looked like when I bought it:

And here's my first mod.. The license plate ;) It's my initials and my day of birth.. Thought it could be cool :)

Since this ride I've pulled the whole car apart.. The body is painted, some windows has gotten "cleared out", and I'm working on modifying the body quite a bit.. Also got the big light kit but haven't mounted it yet.
Yeah, and the most important update is that during christmas I fitted the TFL aluminium axle housing. I just love the look of those and are really looking forward to give them a real beating :)

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

I've also made a couple newbie youtube-clips of the trx-4.. :)

This one is from my first run with it, I crawled a bit on some fire ruins behind my house..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Agh6mLJ8TE

In this one I got out on a trail having some fun on my own..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjdHsqehL-I

Just another film.. :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz9iYURHhsg

And here you can see the reason why I suddenly decided to rip apart the trx and redo some of it..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqCDI5EqlkA

I know I could've just refitted the things that have fallen off during my runs, but I want it to be MINE build, so now I'm going for a new look.. :)

I got these exploded drawings from TFL today, I did miss some documentation on the axle housings when they arrived, but now there is finally some documentation on them :)

It's getting closer to driveable.. Reeeally looking forward to get it out again soon!
It's not gonna happen this weekend, since there is birthdays to celebrate and stuff like that.
But maybe the next one? Thats the goal!

I didn't get to drive it today, partly because it's still -22 celsius outside, but also because when I'm home from work it's allready dark outside.. Hoping for better temperatures for the weekend. :)
But I did take a few pictures outside today, I think it looks better in natural light than indoor.. Agree?

Really nicely done, my man!

Diff covers, front bumper, lights, cage around back window and the tube around the bed area - all those definitely stand out...

Perfect wheel/tire size for the TRX-4, IMHO.

Thank you very much for kind words. Really appreciate it!

Allthough I have to arrest you [emoji6]
It's not diff covers, it's complete axlehousings with diff house, portal housings, c-joints and axle house, all made of aluminium

Those TFL axle housings are attractive and I have looked at them on ebay but I just can't justify the cost.

Yeah, those were one of the first buys on eBay after getting the car home. I just HAD to have them..
Allthough, I had to "man up" a few weeks before I dared to do the job with changing to them. But hey, now I know how to do that too :)

Thanks alot for kind words, Levi :)
Yeah, I'm pretty easy to get caught up in things like this. Allthough I've had a couple RC's before (Savage XL and Vorza), none of them has made an impact the same way as the trx have done. :)
So now I got lots of differens wheels and tires, I got more spares than I'll ever need, I receive boxes from all around the world on almost daily basis.. So I should've been parted from my eBay-account for some time.. :D
But I really love the trx-4 and I hope that's an affair that will last several years :)

Hi, about my trx4 I feel the same way, after I bought it, for over 2 months, I got a new package almost every day as I always found some thing to add to my truck. I cannot say how much I love this truck.[emoji41][emoji16][emoji76]

Yeah, thats true..! :D
Here is some of the wheels and tires I've bought the last month or so..

I actually regret buying the shiny beadlocks, coz' I love the look on those Duratrax-wheels. But hey, I got a clear body lying here waiting for a paintjob(and maybe I'll chop that one as well?), and maybe that body will fit with the lighter color on the wheels? I just have to find out what look I'm going for with that one. I have written with an italian(I think) on facebook about some 3D-printed parts for the crew-cab that makes it look more real, so I might go for another chop. :)

Aluminium deflector, is that the protection under the housing?
It sure will help for not getting stuck with the sharp edge on the housing itself.

Have you run the Duratrax Scaler tires yet? I've always thought those looked very nice for the money...

I've tried them once. And that was a bad experience. But i drove them in sand/gravel and they got packed really fast. But they feel sticky so they might do great on harder Surface.

I was afraid that it wasnt any big difference.. But I'm happy about the result so far, and there's still more to come on this body! :)

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

I am far from finished with this body, but still I got a clear lexan body that I'm trying to figure out what to do with..
Actually I am thinking of making another crew cab, but this time do it over some time, not feeling the rush to get finished so I can go out and drive it. Coz' now I got a driveable body, then I can do both things, build and drive :)
If I'm going to do another crew cab I think I'll try out a set of these 3D-printed parts to get the backwall of the cab right..
https://i.imgur.com/dxSvEWP.jpg
That would make me do another outside paintjob, but actually I think the outside paint that gets scratched looks better than the ones painted on the inside. You may call me a weirdo, but thats just my thougts on that.. :)

Thanks for kind words, Skrotiz.
Yeah I've been looking at a set of belts, but I'm not going to drive it alot in deep snow I guess, so that's not on the priority-list. :)
Where in Sweden are you located?

Skrotiz 01-22-2018 01:54 PM

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

These tracks come from a Kyosho Blizzard (snocat) and the rest is designed and 3D printed by me.
It's really fun to drive through deep snow where wheels wouldn't have a chance.
The tracks are 9cm (~3,5") wide so they carry the car over the snow far better than available sets I've seen for sale.
I live outside Umeå, at the eastcoast just about the same height as Trondheim.
Where in Norway do you live?

sickpuppy 01-22-2018 10:56 PM

Re: sickpuppys TRX-4's life up north..

Aha, I've been in Umeå several times. I mean, I've been driving trucks(24m) in my early days. I'm originally from Trondheim but now I live in Hamar, 3hrs from Karlstad.

A tiny update here.
Here you can see the vents on the hood, the fuel cap and the beadlocks with the ProLine Hyrax tires.

Here's from the side, here you can see the new back bumper as well. I wasnt happy about how that one looked out of the box.
But after I got to cutting it a bit I think it got a tight beautiful fit, and now I actually like it alot!
