It's a mystery...even to me!:ror:

No, seriously, I haven't decided yet on the body. Purchasing this builders bundle was a shock and surprise to me! I didn't even see it coming from VP, but couldn't pass up the deal!

Yeah, sure will. I normally post a pic of the items I use in all of my threads.

I plan on starting the build this Friday. I’ll post the part numbers as I go.

Thanks bama![emoji1689] Glad to have you aboard for the ride!

Not sure of the direction or timeline of this build. This build was completely unexpected![emoji28] Pretty much like most of my builds lately![emoji57]

Well, winter has arrived here in Ohio. Went from 70's last week to 30's this past weekend in a blip! So, that's actually good news! That means I get hobby room bench time!:)

So with that, the start of the BF Bundle Build begins. First off, I need to clarify that this VP Bundle Kit has the portal axles. After I started this thread, Vanquish decided to go ahead and release another Bundle Kit with their newest F10 straight axles. So this build thread will be for the portal kit...for now! I did give in to temptation and order the straight axle bundle kit before they went out of stock! It should arrive here this coming Wednesday. It will get it's own build thread later this year.

I'm not going to do a full build spread of each step of this build. I'm only going to post and point out important info that I think needs to be posted. For a more complete and informative step-by-step Phoenix portal build, you can check out my Phoenix portal build here: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/vanqu...ix-portal.html The initial build process with this build will be very similar to the Phoenix.

I started un-bagging the chassis parts and hardware and noticed that VP has included many optional pieces that I did not expect. VP included the OG Origin alum battery tray and the new Phoenix battery tray (not pictured). They also included the 3-gear trans skid plate as well as the VFD Twin skid plate. Cool that they have done this as it will give builders different options for their builds.

VP includes the titanium link set for the portal axles. This is my first set of titanium links. All of my other rigs use stainless steel links. I like the stainless links because it puts weight down low and they slid over rocks with ease. These titanium links are smaller in diameter and are light as a feather. I'm looking forward to seeing how this links compare to the stainless links that I normally use.

And after seeing the price of these links, I now see why I only run stainless! I guess these titanium links would be good for lightweight rigs.

Well , lemme tell ya, neither of these were planned![emoji1] I bet nobody had said that before![emoji1787]

Seriously though, I had no plans to get either/or but deal sounded to good! I told myself again no more for the rest of the year!

Thanks for stopping by smog![emoji1689]

Next up is the VFD Twin transmission. As always, these trans go together so well. Everything fits together like a glove!

These pics below I'm showing the comparison between the stock plastic parts and sintered gears and the VFD Twin upgrade parts in alum and machined gear set.

The VFD Twin machined gear set I bought on the Black Friday deals. It came with the front 2 machined gears for free. I noticed that this deal didn't last long and hasn't come back to the deal page yet.

All lubed and ready for the transfer case.

I decided to try out the new Hobbywing Fushion PRO 2300kv ESC/Motor combo. Also picked up a cheap set of Amazon servos to operate the OD and DIG. I was so impressed with @DrIsotope's Phoenix Staight axle build on the Tube that I borrowed his idea in using the Fushion and these JX servos. Thanks Doc!;-)

Motor is in. The Fushion fits right in there nicely. From what I've seen and heard, this combo has very smooth low end and a fairly decent top end.

Also took notes from @rockspider and did the shifter boot covers. I used a 6mil nitrile glove fingertip for the OD and DIG. I cut a tiny hole in the tip so it would slide over the shifting lever. I also enlarged the hole in the boot covers a bit and installed them upside down so that they would hold and seal the nitrile glove to the trans case.

Looks great Brian. That’s a fully loaded twin if I ever seen one.

Is this the first fusion you’ve run? Or just the first fusion pro?

I’ve always liked the original fusion, but found it a tad lacking in torque and top speed usually. I’m looking forward to trying the pro in the not so distant future.

Thanks Tom! I'm hoping it will be bulletproof!:ror:

This is the first Fushion PRO that I have. I do have the Quicrun Fushion 1800kv 2-in-1 in my JT Gladiator build. I like the smoothness of that motor/ESC, but the size of the can is a bit bigger. I had to do some modifying to make it fit. The Fushion PRO fit great in the VFD Twin without modification. Also agree, the 1800 Fushion is lacking torque and top speed, especially in my extra heavy Gladiator.

I can't wait to try out the PRO. I've seen and heard a lot of good reviews on it.

So I lied when I responded to @twade984 in the previous post.

There IS a slight modification required to install the HW Fushion PRO into the VP chassis. I had to lightly Dremel the front right top link mount to allow for the motor to fit.

Also (and I don't have a pic of it at the moment) in order to install the motor AFTER the motor plate is attached the the VFD, I had to cut away part of the reinforcement tabs on the front side of the trans so that I could wedge the motor into the motor plate. I try to get a pic of the modification so that it is clearer as to what I had to do.

I decided to try out the new 3Brohters G13 PRO servo. What a beauty it is! Gorgeous case and engravings! The box it comes in is even good looking!

I own a few 3Brothers servos and have great luck with them. Direct power and more than enough torque to wiggle the tires!

I picked up another Flysky GT5 radio. I previously bought the GT5 for my Phoenix portal build. It is a great radio and works well with the OD and DIG shifting servos. I could have just added this rig to my current GT5 radio, but I wanted each rig to have there own so that I can get both rigs out at the same time to compare them. Also in case another driver wants to drive the rig at the same time. At $64 bucks for a 6-channel radio, I don't think that's too bad of a price!

Dang. Was really hoping the Fusion Pro would fit without much struggle.
I have one in an element chassis. Love it. Makes a lot of sense in this VP chassis, where space is at a premium.
