Default Phoenix rtr, what needs to go?

Getting back into 10 scale following a 5-6 year hiatus. Looking at the vanquish phoenix rtf ( no longer have any 10scale gear) anything I should change out immediately from the rtf? Any other tips?

For most rtrs not much really has to go out of the box. Some of the electronics can be a weak point depending on the brand.

As far as the VS410, haven't seen any reports of issues with the electronics yet but the RTR hasn't been out very long. Couple months. The rig itself doesn't need anything out of the box.

Honestly (I’ve got the kit) but from what I have seen with the Phoenix RTR out of the box it’s hands down the best RTR 1/10th crawler/ trail rig that has ever come to market. IMO. It honestly doesn’t need anything, and it’s even got a few perks like the aluminum bearing plates in the trans that the kits don’t have, better tires than what the kits have. And I’d highly suggest adding dig and OD Servos.

Only upgrade I’d see doing is going brushless if you wish. Or a better brushed motor if you want to stay brushed and used the ESC it comes with, which is a Hobbywing 1060? I think and is pretty solid as well.

I built my kit with the aluminum bearing plates, trans stand offs and motor plate and other than tires I have been driving it and enjoying it in the stock form with zero desire or need to upgrade anything. And I’m usually one to add the goodies and upgrades.

Personally I would get new wheels to put a little more weight down low, instead of the plastic stock wheels. The tread on the MT tires is a little too solid for me, but that depends on driving habits. Other than that, what tigris99 says.

I don’t have the Phoenix RTR, but for me the first things I would likely change is foams, and probably wheels. Mostly for looks, partially for performance.

I’d grab it and run it a few times and see what you think after that.

Vanquish actually supplies a pretty good foam, and they hold up to the weight of the trucks nicely. Sure some CI lil novas with medium outer foam would probably perform better. But the single stage foams they come with are more than ample and hold up well side hilling, and don’t warrant immediate replacement IMO.

I don’t disagree with you, but they are square AF. With the tires being so thin and soft, the sidewalls conform to the foam and make it look terrible.

I did say mostly for looks…

For electronics a mamba X puller pro is sweet. You'll probably ruin rod ends faster than anything. It's a heavy rig once you get 4 servos in it.

I'm an old guy (63) and don't need glasses......yet but I have to get a small flashlight to see in there when it's sitting on a flat surface. So I'll be ordering a couple of those.
