Default Don't Touch My Jimmy: GMC Jimmy build by CFM

Well I saw this Jimmy back around the first of the year on Instagram and my first thought was, that's a sweet 1:1. Of course the username implied differently and I was amazed out how much work went into making it so realistic.
Last week I noticed the builder had put it up for sale and I was fortunate enough to purchase the rig I had been desiring for so long. Stephen Monnet gets 100% credit for body mods and paint. You can follow him on Instagram, monnet_rcbuilds.
I'm going to upgrade the electronics and do some metal work to make it my own.
This is how it arrived minus front bumper

Stephen started by making sure the body was scale accurate. The roof should not have ridges over the cab so he made a new roof skin..

Next was body molding instead of decals

To achieve the paint scheme it requires many layers, inside and out.

All inside paint still

Outside paint begins

You can also see the fuel filler added to the body

Next was the Jimmy conversion on the grill. Little bit of styrene work and it all comes to life.

And finished along with the weathering being applied to the body

On to the interior. A Hummr H2 was used for a donor rig for several of its parts. The wipers, door handles, roof rails and interior were all pulled and repurposed.
For the interior, it needed to be widened to fit the large body. Cloth seat covers were also made along with some more paint weathering techniques.

Such a killer rig and execution. You can see the narrowed roof rails fom the H2 installed, rubber mirrors, and wipers.

Now it's my turn.
First I'm thinking of going with the Scale Shop Hutchison bead locks and BFG rubber stuffed with CI deuces wild foams. These have been on my sons rig for the last year. I had replaced the stainless hardware with oxide hardware and they have a nice rusted/weathers appearance now that match the rigs attitude.

Front bumper will be an Offroad Design style bumper and the new sliders will be mild and really tuck up to the body the way they need to.

BOING!!! Love it. Thank you so much for showing the gmc grill conversion. I have 3 1:1 Jimmy trucks and have been trying to find a gmc grill but that looks simple enough to make and looks good. I'm going to paint it to match my real truck too.

Side not, there shouldn't be any ribs in the roof anywhere not just over the drivers seat.

Today I had time to change the shocks out to some Wraith shocks I had laying around that were in better shape for now. This rig already had the upgraded pinions and driveshafts. I also pulled the rear axle back 3/16" and rotated the front pinion down to fix the steering. Also swapped on the Hutchison wheels and BFG rubber

Looking very good! Interesting that you pulled rear axle back 3/16"...I have to go look at mine again because your wheels look really centered in the wells front and rear.

Got the Jimmy out today after another motor went out in my sons rig. Made me nervous letting him drive the rig but he took it easy. Truck does surprisingly well for its size and nature. Will be installing Tekin electronics next week and get the metal work done to call it good.

Are there any leaf spring kits for the Ascender or recommendations on a setup? Really want this thing to be accurate and ditch the linked/cool over suspension.

I don't know of any leafspring kits for it, but it would be sweet! Shouldn't be too hard to fab some perches or file flat spots, locate the springs with one screw through the pack and into the axle housing, clamp with some scale U-bolts. RC4WD's Super Scale Steel Leaf Spring for TF2 & Tamiya Bruiser would look right at home under this Jimmy! Part Number:Z-S1476

Crawled again yesterday testing some rear swaybars on mine and noticed that during articulation the rear axle really looks too far forward in the wells, probably about the 3/16" you moved yours.
