Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Hey Ernie, Glad you like it, so useful to have different foams to get it all dialed in. Nice, kinda how I thought foams are made, I don't have a lathe or router though, I'm sure you can whip some just right foams. The rock sliders rock! Perfect size and shape, just enough extra weight down low, I can feel the added stabililty and easier to clear the climbs and squeezes. They are wearing in nicely. :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pssvxhzylx.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psfzavlz3q.jpg |

I think I may start a new build on my ascender soon. I have another bronco (discontinued wraith bronco body) that I'm itching to start on. It may have to wait until I finish my Thug Bug Twin Hammer but we will see."thumbsup" Ernie, |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Yes, they work great and add nice weight down low. OK, might take you up on that. "thumbsup":ror: Come on down, great crawling here! "thumbsup" I'd love to see your Ascender rebuild, it's nice already, but hey why not? The Pro-Line Wraith Bronco body? |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Norcallump, his son, another buddy, and I went to the Butte county scalers present "SCALEFEST"@Baldrock! Show and shine starts at 10:45 with the raffle and first teams to hit the trail Will be at 11am..! http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/calif...scalers-3.html Butte County and Northern California is Ascender country, everytime I go up there for for a gtg or comp, there are peeps crawling with Ascenders everywhere....love it! "thumbsup" They had a great raffle with an RTR Bronco Ascender, beadlocks, hand-made tow straps with laser cut steel hooks, lots of SBC (Scale By Chris) 3d printed scale items, Mountain Mike's Pizza free large pizza, hydration backpack with bladder, Butte County Scalers T-shirts, and a bunch of other stuff. I bought some raffle tickets and won a sweet set of SBC scale items (milk crate, gas can, first aid kit, and Optima battery) I was too busy admiring my winnings and didn't get in the group pic with all the raffle winners.:mrgreen: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps5fjyhj4l.jpg Here's the sweet recovery rope wrapped around my front bumper (pulled the hook out for display, otherwise it tucks in neatly behind the push bar) works great. I detailed my grill more with some silver/aluminum color paint around the headlights and in the middle grill cross piece. I used Testors water-based acrylic for the first time and put it straight on the chrome, it didn't come out as well as I would have liked, any suggestions? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pshjhw3qim.jpg It was a beautiful cool, cloudy, overcast day with occasional rain sprinkles...love it! Just not ideal for tires grip, and the course was quite challenging and I had to get a little bump or tow strap in a couple places. Overall my Ascender worked great, 2-speed and/or 3S would have helped in a couple spots for a little more wheel speed. KLR 1.9 blue compound and 1.9 Pitbull Rockbeasts were working a little better on the wet rocks, many spots had wet/damp sand and dirt on the rocks or you had to go through some water and then dirt just before the granite climb. I'm still sorting through tons of pics, here's some. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pszkd4gi2x.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pstr9kx4n9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psedm9vtsr.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pswcpiaazn.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psw8dnnvsv.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps3asm1daf.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psnodws9tw.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps0izi0jqc.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psukchitss.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psj1rcbfkv.jpg |

Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Amazing pics! Very jealous of your landscape. Sweet prizes too. As for the paint, I always just use testor's oil based paint on everything. Did my grill and it came out great. I could have scuffed the chrome for maximum adhesion but wasn't going to bother with that and none has flaked off yet. On a side note about tires, it really is amazing how good the vaterra tsl's are. I out my rock beasts on and went out to my secret gravel pit with open granite face and did the same lines I've been doing/trying with the tsl's. I didn't notice a dramatic difference. The rock beasts are a better tire for rock climbing but not like dramatically better. And I'm using the double deuces foams with soft all around in my tsl's. So don't feel like you screwed yourself by not having the rock beasts on. Oh yeah, get to it and do the 2 speed already lol! You won't regret it. Ben |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Thanks, good advice on the paint. Guess I'll buy the Testor's oil-based next time and re-do my grill, your's does look great. Yes, the Vaterra TSLs are great tires, Pitbull Rockbeast made a few spots I had trouble with, but the tables constantly turn and I made some climbs the other tires had trouble with. The differences were small, but when running with a group through the same gate, it's noticeable. Foams definitely can make or break a tire, no matter how good the tire is. :) Thanks, Nate |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Looks like a great day on the rocks!!! |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Butte County is now on my bucket list. What a beautiful place! |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Looks like good times out there Nate! |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Pretty jealous of that terrain Nate, looks like a blast! |

I also bought this piece GCM (incidentally also thank for yours works). But I have a problem is that when I put the links are too far apart, I make an example with paint ... I should do, cut links? Color black = original piece Color red = piece GCM Color Blue = links Color http://fotos.subefotos.com/9151171bf...a4dffd99eo.png It is that I stay too long links... |

Here's from GCM's site, "GCM offers this little truss unit to replace the plastic banana unit and the install is very easy! Simply remove the 12mm spacers in the top links out back and replace the plastic truss with this aluminum unit, and you're off and running! That's all! You can re-use all your stock hardware for the install. This Truss fits the Bazer Ascender with the 12mm spacer removed. To adjust pinion angle, add a 3mm spacer to the top links. This truss fits the Bronco Ascender with new custom top links made up, recommended 10mm shorter than stock. Not included." Therefore on Blazer wheelbase, just remove one of the 12mm upper link spacers and replace it with a 3mm spacer. You might need a shorter grubscrew to re-attach the rod end with shorter spacer to the main upper link, try it first and see. Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER The spacers also have sent me. 12 mm spacer, okay, that and I'm going to remove. But not to put 3mm. You have a photo with this piece? |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER I just looked back through your Ascender thread to be sure you have the Blazer 12.3" wheelbase truck. Remove one 12mm spacer from both of your rear upper links and put the link back together. If you don't use the 3mm spacer, your pinion is probably going to point up too much, this puts a lot of strain on the rear driveshaft and pinion bearings. Picture of what? You can try without the 3mm spacer, but post a picture so we can check your rear driveshaft and pinion input angles. |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER I'll finish wiring the lights and several little things more and once finished I take pictures of everything. Then I ask you to see what I can do. PS: Photos referred me your piece already installed in your car. |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Cool new video by Vaterra that somebody here on RCC mentioned "thumbsup" Beginner setup for your Ready to Run Vaterra Ascender: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NORRDxCuQM |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER I think that one of the great benefits of that video is that it lets the new guy see that it's okay to tinker with your new truck, and that there are things you can do to that new truck to make it better. I remember when I got my first RTR I just assumed that it was set up correctly the way it came. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: Natedog's Vaterra ASCENDER Agreed, and it shows free, cheap and easy mods first! |
