Default Vaterra Aluminum shocks adjusting

So recently I purchased some nice aluminum vaterra shocks for my Ascender, they are great, seem durable, smooth , but a little stiff, I have them backed off all the way. I'm just wondering the best oil to use to keep them not too bouncy but also let them absorb the movement. Also I'm new to this so what's the proper way to add the oil ? Do I compress them ? How much are you supposed to add ?

The oil that comes in them is pretty good for me, maybe go little thinner if you like it more reactive or for the front shocks. You can swap springs, I have Vaterra upper and lower spring set for tuning, and yes you can adjust the preoload.

If they are the same basic design as the stockers they are emulsion type(air mixes with the oil).

Skip to about 2:25 if your just changing the oil:
