Default Twin Hammers - SCX10 Transmission Adapter?

Hey all - wondering if anyone has used the "Twin Hammers to Axial Transmission Adapter" by Mazdabduner. I was building my Twin Hammers and thought this would be a nice swap, after not being happy with how the stock trans went together.

I am not going to be using the 2-speed feature in the stock TH transmission, and I'm not a fan of some of the super tiny screws they use inside that thing. Have a spare mirrored SCX10 trans that I want to install instead.

Link to the webstore selling the adapter: Twin Hammers to Axial transmission adapter (NNSKECCND) by mazdabduner

Think it's worth picking up?

Seems worth it. I am planning on making the swap after funds get back up. If it breaks it is only $10 and you can always revert back to the original trans.

Theres a thread here that gas the scx10 tranny. I think that guy got a 2nd hand TH and it came with the scx10 tranny already.

I drilled 3 new holes in the chassis, used one of the existing, and mounted my SCX Trans for free. Took all of 10 minutes. I did make a custom front driveshaft using an old touring car dogbone and diff cups.

Hey guys, I am trading for a TH slider and want to use a SCX10 tranny. I keep seeing references to the tranny needing to be mirrored and the need for a reversed motor plate. I am just going to use the Shapeways tranny mount referred to earlier in this thread.

Would someone please list the part numbers or a quick "how to"? Pics would be great as well...

I am building this for the local U4RC club in the IFS 1.9 division.

Many thanks,
Jason

What part numbers are you looking for? All you need is an scx10 trans and google "scx10 mirrored trans".

Is there any update to this? I'm also thinking about using axial trans on my hammer since the output shafts are not a through hole it always comes out.

I've been running one and it has held up well but if that is the reason then why don't you just drill a through hole?

If you use the same motor, battery spur and pinion gear, what will the SCX10 tranny compare to? First or second gear?

It will be close to First gear.

The twin hammer final drive ratio in low gear ratio is 32.26:1 and 18.09:1 in high gear.

If you check Axial’s gear chart you can see the T hammer 32.26 gear ratio is achievable with a variety of different pinion and spur combos.

Thanks

Is there a single tranny that corresponds to second gear?

Vaterra tranny is much smoother and tighter tolerances on gears, shafts than the Axial trans in question and has nice gear cover. I'd just swap out the SCX10 tranny for TH/Ascender tranny.

The Vaterra sintered gears are better than the Axial sintered gears I’ve had, but my axial fixed tranny with xtra speed helical gears is super nice, smooth and quiet.
I really like the vaterra TH motor mount and adjustment too, so I am working on a new gear casing that takes the axial gears, but maintains the vaterra motor mount and spur cover. Ideally i wanted to keep the vaterra output shaft too, but thats not gonna work with the xtra speed gears.
