3 Attachment(s) its been awhile since i've posted anything. i've gotten the creeper out quite a bit and i'm liking the way it is running. one thing that has bugged me is with the stock wheels i have no way to quickly adjust weights. so, i have an xr10 so i decided to do a wheel swap. to do that i had to get some wideners to get back to the same track width. did the swap last night and i'm liking the look. i used the internal xr10 weight ring to get just under by previous wheel weight in the front. now i can use the brass slugs i have to adjust as needed. looking forward to running this setup. here are a couple pics: |
that looks really nice jebster "thumbsup" |

thanks. the wheels have been working great on my xr10 so i hope i have the same luck on my creeper. i am a little concerned about the wideners holding up but only time will tell. |
Looks great Jeb, I had a set of those XR-10 wheels too, I was thinking the same thing as you about the wideners, did'nt know if they would last or strip the hex out of the wheel and I ended up not ever trying them. Good luck with them. |
Re: jebster's creeper it's been awhile since i posted up. i've had a chance to comp my creeper a few times and i've been pretty happy. i liked the xr10 wheels but, to no surprise, the hexes have gotten rounded so i switched to a set of aluminun hubbed wheels. i've also had to adjust springs a couple times. i'm also getting more use to how it handles. i did have a question. has anyone created or currently run with knuckle weights on their creeper? i run an xr10 in the pro class and love the stability it gives me. i have what i think is a simple knuckle weight design i'm going to try out once i get some material but if others have done this i'd like to get some lessons learned. i'll try to post up pics of my mocked up weight system soon. |
Re: jebster's creeper you can run ax-10 high clearance knuckles zero ackerman and get the weights for them . |

Re: jebster's creeper I personally like axle weights better then wheel weights. It tends to break alot less parts. If you make some let us know how they turned out. I am sure there are lots of us interested. |
Re: jebster's creeper 5 Attachment(s) I don't have the material on hand so I decided to mock it up with cardboard. The real material will be brass washers. McmasterCarr has the right size: 1 5/8 OD, 25/32 ID, 1/4 thick. As you can see I plan on notching the washer to stick to the outside of the knuckle and fix it in place like VP does for the xr10 knuckle weights (small screws on the back side). After the addition washers, either full rings or half rings, will be mounted to the first ring. The screws will be threaded into the brass washers. My goal would be to get between 3 & 4 oz on each side. Until I get the washers I won't be sure. So, I have a couple pics of my mock up. Feedback is welcome. Remember, my goal is to make a system that could be created with handle tools. |
Re: jebster's creeper You know the weight of each washer? Cant be much I wouldnt think. Maybe 2oz? |

Re: jebster's creeper if i did the math right each washer will weigh in at 0.8oz. not as high as i hoped but if i can get 3-4 washers per side i would get the knuckle weight i want. |
Re: jebster's creeper Vanquish add-on rings have the following weights: 1/8 thick Rings weigh .69oz each ring. 1/4 thick Rings Weigh 1.38oz each ring. |

Re: jebster's creeper so i did my math again on the weight of each brass ring and it is actually 1.9oz per ring. perfect! put an order in tonight. once i get them in and mount them up i'll post some pics of how it turned out. |
Re: jebster's creeper 5 Attachment(s) Got my brass washers today and started making my knuckle weight mount. Pretty simple. Used a hacksaw to rough cut the notches to fit around the knuckle then used some files to finish them up. Just need to drill a few hole to mount it on the knuckle and a couple more for connecting up additional rings. Once I get it finished I'll take some file weight measurements then test it out. A few pics of the progress so far: |
Re: jebster's creeper Those look really good man. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup" |

Re: jebster's creeper Great work Jeb, and a great idea. "thumbsup" |
Re: jebster's creeper 5 Attachment(s) Got the second mounting ring cut, drilled the added weight rings. Started mounting things up to take a look. I found I need a couple washers between the rings to keep them flat (the knuckle isn't quite flush with the mounting ring). The smaller half weights are actually plates from my blue monkey RC xr10 rear weight system. The fit perfect. Last step is to fab up some tabs to lock the mounting ring in place. I decided to cut down a standard washer. Still need to trim down the length of one then drill them. Can't wait to get these on and start testing. Here are a few pics from my progress tonight. |
Re: jebster's creeper looking good jeb. im just going to go the easy route as im lazy . going with the VP 8* knuckles and there 8* knuckle weight system. but im deffintly looking forward to seeing how these work. |
Re: jebster's creeper They look like an awesome way to go! As I'm running Berg offset with spacers on my creeper, with aluminum he knuckles .. if you end up making some sets, it would be a great way to go for me as well... very smooth work! Keep it up the great idea |
Re: jebster's creeper 6 Attachment(s) Got the mounting tabs cut, drilled and then I assembled all the parts. It came together well and feels rock solid. Need some screws of the right length and then I'll be rea:)dy to put everything back on the creeper and do some testing! :) A few pics of tonight's progress. (Keep in mind all this has cost me so far was about $30 for the brass washers.) |
Re: jebster's creeper Awesome build! Can't wait for testing pics! What's ur overall weight gain as a finished product? |

Re: jebster's creeper That's awesome! I want a set! Lol. . . But really. I'm planning on adding weight to the front now that I have dig.. it doesn't seem to want to over power the grip of the rear wheels in some places .. an I'm running 7oz up front an 3oz in the rear now. |
Re: jebster's creeper i had a couple pm's about the part number for the washer so i figured i'd post it up here. i got them from mcmaster-carr and the part number is 95395A360. |
Re: jebster's creeper Nice work on the knuckle weights looks good cant wait to see how the testing goes |
Re: jebster's creeper 7 Attachment(s) Finished up the parts and got everything mounted. Fits great with no binding or rubbing. The parts weigh in as follows: Knuckle mount - 1 5/8 oz Full ring - 1 3/4 oz Half ring - 7/8 oz Per side that gets me to 4 1/4 oz and change for the hardware. Just about what I wanted. Hopefully I can get some time on the rocks this weekend to test them out. A few more pics: |
Re: jebster's creeper 6 Attachment(s) Got the rig out for some testing on my backyard course this morning and I can see a definite improvement. The from seemed like if was glued to the rocks. My balance needs some work and the front wheels were still weighted (which I want to pull out) so the rig is pretty heavy but these knuckle weights are keepers. Some pics below. The shots of it going up the near vertical face are great considering I could never pull that line in the past. |
Re: jebster's creeper Now thats a backyard course and your testing looks good |
Re: jebster's creeper Dam right that's a home course! That's a heck of a rig too! Great pics an great work driver! |
Re: jebster's creeper that home course is better then any I have seen I think. Very cool. Rig looks great and looks like it crawls great as well. |
Re: jebster's creeper hey jebster, have u weighted those knuckle weights that u made yet? |

Re: jebster's creeper everyone, just wanted to put an acknowledgement out to thomas of rmdesignworks. he's looked at my idea and is going to be exploring the production of this knuckle weight system. given his ability to create and refine ideas and bring them to market i'm sure it will be another great addition to his product line. if my simple concept helps benefits others i've done my part. thomas, i'm looking forward to seeing where this goes! |
