Well the rear axle is done it only took 1 shim on the pinion to take up the extra movement there. The H R lockouts was a different story though when thay were put together the bearing inside the lockout would slide in and out about 1 1/2mm on both sides,I used 3 traxxas teflon washers on each side on the stub axle then put the axle through the lockout, problem solved.

The wheely king axles are going in the venom housings. It was suposed to be a sumwhat simple fix for the run of weak cvds that where in the kits that our local hobby shop got.But I was a little to focused on the shaft end of the wheely king cvds,So the stub end will not work.
What I've done now is changed the stub ends from WK to the RCP TLT stub ends and several hour of serching for the rite bearings to use in the VP knuckles they will work,But as for being sumwhat simple and cost affective I do'nt think so but other might,Also the shaft end needs to be shortend and the flat sections need to be cut on them.

Re: ratterd's Venom build

That was the problem i was having, everything that looks like it might work well had the wrong stub on it and once you swapped stubs, the cost was over my limit. .........sooooo the pig of a bronco is going SCX10 axles and the creepers are moving in under a much lighter tuber ;)

The cheapest and strongest way I've found to fix the weak venom CVDs was I used two long berg dog bone shafts and cups in a club members venom(he broke 8 CVDs in less than a month)I cut them to length put the flat sides on them and shims for getting the pin centerd and was done.We used all the stock bearings and it actualy had a few more degrees of steering. We tortured it pretty good yesterday with 0 issues.

Well I got a little bit more done today,I got the HR steel AX10 diff locker shimed in with the Axial over drive ring and pinion on it.(pic#1)

The 2nd pic is the wheely king/TLT MIP shafts and stubs instaled.

The 3rd pic is the finished front axle with the HR Chubs, vanquish 0 ackerman knuckles and D Lux no slop bushings.

I like the link plate being up high like that. What are the benefits of raising them up and separating them though?

Re: ratterd's Venom build

Would you be willing to do up a parts list with part numbers for the front axle conversion? whats the ratio difference front and rear?

The plate is only raised 1/8 of a inch,The reason for the highth is so I can get the anti squat I'm looking for,It also helps with torque twist and flex steer.

Re: ratterd's Venom build

Flex steer isn't an issue for me at all with 4WS but the torque twist would be nice to get rid of. With these being shaft driven, it can only be countered not completely eliminated. I just moved my upper rear links to the outer portion of the stock tabs and that helped quite a bit. Your design is wider and may be adaptable to fit the servo in there as well as allow more uptravel with my battery placement. I look forward to seeing your build and I really want to see some good high torque video of it as well.

The front ring&pinion 14-36..ratio-2:56.The rear ring&pinion(stock venom)13-39..ratio-3:10

H-R Parts and numbers
unibody shd differential lock ax10..SCP125R
black alum. c-hub creeper..CRP1901
HPI parts and numbers
washers 10x12x0.2mm..Z892
AXIAL parts and numbers
Heavy Duty Bevel Gear Set 36t/14t..AX30401
RCP Crawlers parts and numbers
Wheely King CVD axle by MIP..SKU#WK10220
2x TLT stub axle by MIP SKU#10202
2x Bearing 6x11x4
2x Bearing 6x10x3
Vanquish 0 ackerman AX10 high steer knuckles(I do'nt have a part # for these.)
I was not able to find any 10x15x1mm shims(I had to make them for the front locker)
Please Note that there is alot of cutting and grinding for fitment for this front axle.

I'm doing the same set up for the front also. The servo fits between the links in the stock location.

I am starting to think this mod would be worth the money. I can run Axial axles and have these laying around or i can invest some time/money and get them functional. You have seen as I have that the Front is trouble area while the rear can be welded up and built with the stock parts.

Re: ratterd's Venom build

I would really like to do some testing on this front axle before anybody desides to build it,I think the weak point of the axle is that 6x10x3 bearing.

I did'nt use the pins that come in the kit for the hexs I used the traxxas set screws that have the pin on them thay are used on the traxxas pinion yokes.I drilled the hole on the stub axle alittle bigger for the pin and slid the hex over the hole put the pin in through the hex and the stub axle and tightend it up.It made for a much closer fit to the knuckle.
