simple question, i just got into it this spring and it is a absolute freaking ball!, i'm not really great at it only got about 40 carp and ten buffalos since may but its a great way to pass the time. went into my uncles bowshop lookin for somethin cheap and he gave me a myles keller legend magnum spool and arrow for free and me and my buddies were off shootin um that day.

since i have gotten more serious
got a fourteen foot lund with a trollin motor that i built a platform on out of sign board (it says casual dining at its finest) and rigged her up with a generator and flood lights. also upgraded to a ams retriever on the bow wich made a world of difference

so anyone else here partake in this sport?

what kind of bow and boat you running?

I do...

I had been shooting an AMS Fishhawk with a retreiver pro

http://www.amsbowfishing.com/product_info.php?cPath=46&products_id=278

I changed the cams and now my 7 year old is shooting it

I just went to an Oneida Ospry bowfishing rig

I have a 16' F&F boat set up for only bowfishing just like this one, It's getting painted blue camo as we speak!

We go at least 2 to 3 nights a week.

I'm actually leaving for vacation in the morning. We are going to the FL coast where I have 2 trips already setup for bowfishing for sharks.

besides carp what do you guys bow fish for and do you keep the fish you catch ?

BD posted a pic of his daughter that had a fish that she got with a bow.

Yup, her very first fish with a bow...

She now has about 15 under her belt!

All the flooding along the MS river has made it a great bowfishing year

I'll upload some of our better outings from this year and a 14' alligator from last year!

We mainly shoot Buffalo, grass carp, big head carp, german carp, and alligator gar on the MS

When we go to the coast we shoot reds, flounder, sting rays, and sharks

I only keep the reds for myself and give everything else to a homeless shelter

I used to go with my dad. Mainly for alligator gar on the Trinity River in TX. Biggest one he ever got was 7'2" and the biggest one I ever got was ~3".

thats awesome. i see alot of fish go to waste around where i live. people just shoot em on the banks. i can see killing a invasive species like a snakehead but what you do, hats off to ya! not many would do that.

arhh i wish my little cousins were like ur lil ones

the thought of even killing a fish makes them squimish and all they can talk about some pop band called joan's ass brother or somthing rather.
my aunt tells them that the sushi tey eat are from fish that die from natural causes

What kind of fish are those BD? Not up on my southern species.

I used to bowfish all the time when I was younger. We'd go wading into flooded baseball fields at the outlets of local lakes in the spring and spend hours shooting carp. Never did anything with them, but the local fishermen and fish and game officers were happy we were getting rid of at least a few of them.

Much thanks from a fellow fisherman for getting rid of those carp. Wish some of you guys would come up north and thin the carp heard. I don't bowfish just a conventional fisherman myself.

Nicely done BD! You gotta be proud of your girls. "thumbsup"

I'm still trying to de-city-fy my son...

Asian big head carp

I had a nice bow once and sold it cuz I never shot it. Now my family has a nice place on a lake with a shit ton of carp and I've been thinking of getting another bow. I need another hobby like a hole in the head... They hold a tournament every year on the lake and the lake also has an electric boat that goes out at night and electrocutes the carp!
