80 model Toyotas

I am just woundering if there is anyone else on here that has a 80 model yota. I have had one for a little bit but have just decided to do some things to it and want to get a little advice! I am right now in the process of painting it with the ol rattle can. Its a woods truck so I am not paying to have it done guys!!! But I want to do a flat bed on it and cut the frame behind the leafs to shorten it up. The bed on it is for sure shot, it needs some steel plate welded in the floor board. I will get a new grill soon. It does run and has 33" TSL Super Swampers on it. Running dual transfer cases also. I will load the pics tomarrow of it like it was before paint started. I have a another coat of two to put on it. I choose white paint because I like a white vehicle and mud shows up real good on it two and scratches don't show that bad. Please post pics if you have any. Family things keep me from working on it a good bit though so it will be a slow process!!!

Thats my 86 it has Marlin crawler SAS, 63'' chevy springs in rear, 5:29 gears front and rear, spools front and rear, dual cases with 4.7 gears in the rear case, hydro assist, 37's just ordered 39.5 iroks and Longfied outers and inners for the front axle, i would leave a little bit of frame id say atleast 5 inches behind your rear shackle hanger if you ever want to add longer springs.

this is what it looked like when i first drove it out of the garage under its own power after alot of the major mods sas,duals,lockes etc....

Thats nice man. I forgot to add that I also have a marlin crawler. Yeah I was gonna leave some room back there. I think if I take the bed off and just take the factory bumper off I should be happy with that.

yeah my truck got rear ended so the ass of the frame was all bent all the way up the the shackle mounts so i hacked my frame right at the shackle mounts and welded on new steel from there back for the shackle mounts for my 63'' chev springs my bed is also bobbed 15 inches "thumbsup"

What year was it that Toyota did a buy back on rusted out trucks. One of my friends made out great on the buy back? Sorry for jumping your thread but I just thought of it while reading this.:roll:

I don't have an 80's but a 91'. I do have some advise though for anyone who has a Toy. Drill a small drain hole, mabe 1/8 inch or so, just behind the front spring hanger for the rear springs, right where the frame turns up to go over the rear axle. Water can collect inside and rust your frame from the inside out causing the spring hanger to come off of the frame. Ask me how I know. I had to weld new metal in the frame to reattach the spring hanger. This is not that uncommon either. I have found several people who have had this happen. So, if you are wondering why you are all of a suddon dog legging down the road you better look.

I did not hear about this. Too bad mine is a 91'. I am sure mine was my own fault. Too much mudding. My next vehicle will still be a Toy.

1981 hilux shorty. orig 22r. weber. 85 trans, t-case. skys offroad design front hangar, shackles, and rear chevy kit. stock rear leaf springs up front, rear ford f-150 leaf springs. skys hysteer. bobbed 13". wheelbase stretched to 106". 5.71s spool rear lincoln locked front(daily driver:shock. old pic with 36" tsls. now i have 35"bfgs, trailgear rocksliders, smittybilt winch on budbuilt plate. and a lot more dents!

winter plans are ifs rear axle, spacers for front. aussie lockers frt and rear. start tubework(front bumper, cab hoop, and rear bars into bed) possible dovetail. hope to have marlin duals, longs, and 37s this summer. mid 90's landcruiser family/expedition vehicle next on my list.

Ive got an '85 pickup. Its a lot of fun, and its my first vehicle.

Oh ya, its got dual cases, detroit locker in the back, ott hi steer, 35's, warn 9500 winch, and some other stuff.

JIA Im glad you thought of that. I have a 1998 tacoma but I do not think that they wil do anything about it because its in excellant condition. I am just now getting off work so pics will be up tomarrow i hope. Guys keep the toyotas coming I like the pictures. Elbo thats a nice yota there. I would do that to my bed but there is no point because its so bad. I am gonna get it like I want it and then get something else a little newer.
