My wife and I are looking at up-grading our gaming system. We currently have PS2, and over 100 games for it, so we're kind of partial to PS3, but have heard from EVERYONE that the XBOX is better.

Wifey is huge into the Final Fantasy series (she's beaten ALL of them!, except FF11), and none of those are on XBOX (currently). So that's the only thing making the decision hard.

I also heard that EVERYTHING for the XBOX is extra... the hard drive, the high-def cables, etc. is this true?

i had an xbox 360 and hated it. it was loud, you had to pay for online, no hdmi cable. cant remeber if it had the network adaptor included or not?

got a ps3 and love it. free online silent. blu ray wireless internet/ network adaptor.

depends what games you like. for me the ps3 has been nothing but awesome. best of all no red ring of death.

I prefer the 360 myself, it has more of the games that I like to play, and I can't stand the PS2/3 controller.

It really just comes down to what games you like best and which system they're on.

Well ive played both and prefer my 360. It's quiet, ya I said quiet, the one you can buy for $299 comes with the hd cables. The games are better on the 360. The online play is more advanced. You don't have to pay for everything.

maybe you have a new one. but mine sounded like a 747 taking off in my living room when it was on.

I've got probably 200-300 games all together for the Playstation system, and my nephews still play some of the old ones. The folks that always say the games are better on the 360 half the time don't even know. Bottom line is that SOME things in games are better on 360, and SOME are better on the PS3. I will say that online gameplay from what I've heard is better on the 360, but all of that is changing as more and more people start getting online on the PS3. I've also heard from several people who have had issues with their 360's and had to send them in for repairs, sometimes more than once.

So bottom line is with the PS3 you can still play your old games on that one system, you can even load your old memory cards to the system if you buy the adapter. Blueray, and everything else can be played through the PS3 as well. Then alos the internet connection. I use it all the time to watch Youtube vids on the big screen, and even to get on RCC.
"thumbsup"

I also think back to when it was the PS2 vs Xbox, and pretty much everyone I knew over the course of those years ended up trading in Xbox's if they had one in order to get a PS2. I'll stick with my Playstation systems.

I prefer my xbox over the ps3 any day. I've had it for 3 years now and is still working like new with 0 issues along the way. The online play is very good, and xbox releases many updates for xbox live and your games. It's a very good system for how cheap it is. When played on a HDtv it is awesome, mine came with hd cables and a larger hard drive for $299 3 years ago.

The xbox also has windows media center and you can view movies and listen to your songs on your computer through your xbox.

I'm no big gamer but I my 360 went bad 3 times and its gone now. My PS3 hasn't had an issue. We even bought another just for the Blueray.

don't need FF12... she's already got it for PS2, the special edition, and she already beat it.... like six times.

She's gotten to the point she can complete the entire game 100% plus all the side quests in like six hours...

The chick is a freak.

And the XBOX failure thing is something I've thought about. My wife's little brother is a hardcore gamer, in the 1.5 years he's had an XBOX 360 he's gotten the "red ring of death" three times now.

Ps3 all the way! I've played both systems, ps3 just takes the cake. I love my 80gb, have had absolutely no problems. Everyone I know that has both systems, say the ps3 is better hands down. 360's also have lots of problems I've heard. Ps3 is free online and comes with everything you need. 360 you have to pay for wireless router, pay to play online. Online gameplay from what I have played, is exactly the same, I see no difference. And you're already familiar with the controller and everything, so ps3 is the way to go. You can play music, and movies on both systems, just not blu-ray on the 360. I would never ever buy a 360 after my experiences with my ps3. I've had my ps3 for 2 years now? And through this time friends have sent in their 360's for repairs, repeatedly. Overall I, and many others, believe the ps3 is better in everything. Sure 360 has a few games the ps3 doesn't have, but ps3 also has games the 360 doesn't have. But if you want to play your ps2 games on it, you have to make sure you get a ps3 with 4 usb ports. Those are the only ones that can play the ps2 games, from what I've read/heard anyways. In the longrun you'd be happier with the ps3, and it'd be way cheaper if you wanted to play online. Hope I helped, we could always use more ps3 players!

I have both and I prefer the 360. Titles for the 360 are much better than what has been coming for the PS3 for a long time. Game developers are finally understanding how to fully utilize the PS3 power but still week compared to the 360. Graphically the 360 is better than the PS3. As far as the 360 having a lot of problems...BULL. It only has 1. The red ring of death but that has a fix. Its warrantied for 3 years. I had to send mine back in 2 years ago and I havent had a problem since. Yes the 360 can be loud but who listens to the system when they are playing the game? Also yes we do have to pay $50 annually for online play. But it is worth every penny.

It really depends on what you're interested in as a gamer. If you're serious about multiplayer FPS gaming such as online Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and 5, Fallout 3, and all the other top-shelf first person shooters on the 360, then get the 360. However, if you're more into RPGs and other genres of games, along with not being too miffed without a fast online service, then you should get a PS3. It has better RPGs, racing games, third person shooters, and it's a better multimedia hub (blu-ray). And while the decreasing price of blu-ray players means that it's not a reason to get a PS3, it's always a plus.

This is another big reason I'm glad I went PS3 instead of 360. They are just now getting to a point of understanding how to use the PS3's potential. This means for PS3 there are still big things on the horizon, whereas the 360 is close to being maxed out. I'm figuring in another couple years the PS3's will still be going strong, while the 360's will start falling behind.

With a 360 you would be buying a nice game system of today, where the PS3 is an investment for the future of gaming.

360 only has a small amount of games they don't offer to the ps3. It's a good thing developers are finally understand the power, that means even better games in the future. And BULL! Graphically they are the same! The 360 has HD, and the Ps3 has blu-ray, so really if anything, the ps3 is better. And they no longer have HD movies, they went out because they knew blu-ray was better.

By the time the PS3 is maxed and newer xbox will be in development and will be ahead of the PS3. Its a lose lose situation. It just comes down to what games you play and preferance. IMO Sony has been going backwards with the PS3, taking away usb ports and eliminating the backwards compatibility with the PS2.

Also wrong, if you haven't noticed, they both release newer, better systems around the same time. And with the knowledge they learn from the ps3, will only make the ps4 that much better.

I was actually wondering about the things they were doing with the PS3's. I bought mine when they first came out, so I've got the 4 USB ports in the front. Everyone else I know has bought one recently, and even if they buy the bigger of the two options they only had 2 ports. So far mine has worked perfectly with every game I've tried in it all the way back to the PS1 games.

As far as the release of a new console, we all know it will come in the future. I think release dates of these consoles all started with the fact that the PS2 simply outlasted the Xbox when those were the two competitors. I see the same pattern with the PS3, and know that I will have many many years of use out of it before it becomes obsolete.

Honestly the biggest deciding factor when I bought mine was the simple fact that I can still play any of my Playstation games all the way back to the PS1 all in one console, because the biggest reason I have the games in the first place is for when my nephews come over. Since I've owned that PS3, my nephews have probably played it 80% to my 20% of playing time. Since they do still love some of the old games, and I don't want to clutter things up with all different consoles, it just worked out better.
