Well, I just got the new motor trend, and they did a comparo with the new challenger RT (376hp 410lbft) Mustang GT (315hp 325lbft) and the new Camaro SS (426hp and 420lbft)

If you havent got this yet, go get this issue.

I'm sure there is gonna be a long debate and all that, but trust me, the winner is a shocker. If you peruse the stats even, you'll be shocked.

I was just trying to make is suspensfull, and get people to actually read the stats...BUT, here ya go.

3rd place... Dodge Challenger R/T. Reason, while it looks good, its to heavy, and slow to keep up. The interior is the same as in the 300c, and it handles like a dog.

2nd place... Ford Mustang GT. Reason, best stearing feel of the bunch, killer handeling, Acceleration numbers on the heels of the camaro (alot closer when using the camaros "launch control" on) Best sounding enginge of the three. Best interior of the bunch, but the looks are what killed it... Just not as exciting as the others.

1st place.... Chevy Camaro SS. Reason, best acceleration numbers, IRS has the best suspension (tho midpack lateral acceleration numbers) Killer looking body, Good price and decent interior. lacking in that pony car V-8 sound. Easiest to hustle around corners wit broken or cracked asphault. And great ride.

The handling, acceleration, etc is practically meaningless for daily driving...which is what what these cars are designed for.

They are not track cars.

0-30, 0-60, and 0-100 comparisons don't really mean much for the daily driver. Same with skidpad numbers.

For the money these new cars are pulling I'd rather buy something like my old '68 GTX with the 440 and 4-speed.

Why pay $38k for a Challenger R/T when you can buy a SRT-8 model for that?

I agree, numbers are useless, which is why I found the winner/losers such a shock. According to motor trend, the camaro is the best riding car, and the felt the most planted in turns, but has a small back seat, and small trunk. The mustang rode second best even tho it still has a live rear axle, It somehow managed to put up the best handeling numbers despite the fact, although according to them it felt very gittery on rough and broken rods in corners, it had a great seating all around. The real killer that got me was the RT, it had the biggest interior that no-one wanted to be in. And according to motor trend handled and rode worst of the three, so much so that they resigned it to cruzing status only. The motor felt coarse, and the tranny was very unconnected in feeling.

I'm shocked that the less powerful mustang out performed the others in handleing, and was almost if not just as fast as the camaro despite being haveing a 100hp disadvantge. They are all pretty much a wash in fuel economy tho.

If you look at the numbers the best lateral was the lightest car. The heavier they got...the worse the lateral.

The lightest car also had the 40 series 19 inch wheels compared to 45 series 20-inchers on the other two (although the Camaro does have 40 rears)

The Stang is almost 300 pounds lighter than the Camaro, that will make a big difference. And the Camaro was a full .5 second faster, that's huge in the 1/4 mile!!!!

Seeing those #'s on the Camaro just think..... A Intake, full exaust, better tires, just bolt on stuff would get it into the low 12's:shock: Shed some weight off of it and get into the motor or drop some Nitrous in it and you looking at one fast car!

People want a SS or a Cobra to go fast and have braggin rights, they are not worried about how good it feels on the road to work.....That's what the Honda is for:ror:

why compare the top of the line chevy to mid line ford and dodge compare the camaro to the shelby mustang and the srt8 challenger

the srt8 has 425 hp and 420 lb/ft

the shelby has 540 hp and is supercharged

Those are the "mid line" cars...
I know it sounds weird and all, and chevy changed they way it went, but heres the break down...
Class 1,
V6 mustang
V6 Camaro
V6 challenger Se

Class 2,
Mustang GT
Camaro SS
Challenger RT

Class 3
Camaro Z/28 (I know its backwards.. and it may never be realeased now that GM'm in trouble, but its supposed to be the top of the line HiPo)
Challenger SRT8
Mustang Cobra GT500

In the same issue of MT, they did a write up on the new cobra gt500, and needless to say, it trounced the only compation (challenger srt8) in every performance spec you can think off.

Well no warranty, less road handling, less safety features in case of a problem. I would never pay $40,000 for a used American car with a truck frame and drum rear brakes.

Though I'll race any of those 3 on a track, rain, snow, sleet and always win :roll::roll:

I don't know Binary, you give me $40k and I will build a 68 GTX that will hold it's own with those three:lol: I would have to go with the 66 Impala myself JIA8)

your so far in left field my man.
my SS has nearly 130,000 on it and my DD.
i have tons of friends, with 10-13 second DDs and road course DD cars.
handling and accelerations is exactly why we bought them and want them for DDs.

camaros and mustangs arent track cars? wow thats an insane statement. i guess if its not open wheel or zues fasterered body panels its not a track car to you.

I'd go with a stripped down Challenger R/T, but that's just me"thumbsup"

I passed the local Chevy Dealer on my way to work this morning and they had 5 Camaros on a truck pulling into the lot. If I was seeing things right, it looked like 3 silver V-8 models and two very Yellow:shock: V-6 cars.

Car and Driver put the Camaro up against a Genisis coupe. They like the Camaro better, which is ok, but they say that if you are over 5'10" you will not enjoy the Camaro.

I am not in the market for a pony car, my jeep is fast enough.
