What motors did that damage?

I think he was using some 13t cobalts, i personally killed every gear in both front and rear axles on my c.c. with my 454 motors from jrh, although i was running a 3s lipo with them:mrgreen:, not much chance of gears surviving like this.

:?:, are you asking about runtimes? are you talking about the same batt pack on the redcat and on the mrc?

no i mean that the battery provided with both have the same type cell im pretty sure, theres 6 cells in each, so why would the redcat have such a small run time?

do the math, it's 2 380 series motors on a heavier rig with a full size servo and very similar mah capacity batteries, the mrc is one micro motor 280 series i beleive, micro servo, it all ads up to less current consumption on the mrc, although the redcat should get around 30 minutes of runtime on that capacity battery( quality cell dependant)

I'm looking to buy my first crawler and the price on this one is great. Do you think its worth it as a starting point for someone who is just getting into RC crawlers that can be built on as I go?

yes i do this is my first rc crawler as well and i have done a few mods to it. there isnt much in the after market options yet but i hear there should be soon.

I haven't done much with this thread, as I completely gave up on the stock idea, but I can still update it with some useful info every now and then.

On the axles, if you are use to the simplicity of disassembling Berg/Newage axles, or even Axials for that matter, taking apart these things is a PITA. Pretty much every single screw you see on the axles needs to be removed to separate these things.:shock:

But anywho, onto the ratio. Internally, the gear ratio is 7.7:1, which seems pretty light, but in such a small space it is about all you can do. Combine that with a 12T pinion, and you end up at 32:1 FGR.

As best as my weak eyes I can, the stock spur is 48dp. I have run it for a couple of hours with a 48dp pinion and all seems well, so that is what I am going with.:mrgreen:

On a side note, I destroyed the stock plastic steering knuckle within a few minutes of running it, but luckily, the steering knuckles and outer stub shafts are typical of the Axial/Berg and interchangeable.

i picked up a pair of the cobalt 400 motors also, but apparantly the set screw for the stock pinions from the rs10 are a crazy size. none of my hex wrenches fit. anyone know what size they are? 1.5mm is too large and 1.27mm is too small. obviously it's something between those, but i can't find any in my area...LHS didn't have any hex wrenches in that size or pinions in the size i needed. ordering new pinions would probably be my best bet, seems like.

Last time I had a problem - the wrench was a little rounded on the edges, had to buy a new one. Try the 1.27 with a little piece of foil to fill in the voids.

i own a rs10xt the new version. ive had it for about two weeks and allready had problems with the steering servos(striped the gears in both front and rear). and also with a motor. im curently waiting on replacement for the motor. as for the servos the stock ones are junk( i would toss them and upgrade to metal gear high torque ones if u own one). the motor prob. was from tire rub put hb tires on and the rear rubs against the motor wire tang. the suspension is adjustable but i wouldnt adjust it because, of the same issue. anything else u wanna know ill check back soon."thumbsup"

the tire rub on the motor is kind of an old issue, redcat is sending out a mod sheet with new purchases to show how to bend the motor tabs up to prevent the tire rub on the motor

Oh yeah, I love 'em. They did destroy a set of stock gears, but that's because I was liking the wheelspeed way too much and got throttle happy. I'm on another set of stock gears that are holding up fine with the stock ESC. If you can find a set of the 13 turn cobalt 400's that I have, I recommend picking them up, but they're super tough to find now.

thanx for the info. i finaly got red cat to send me new servos and a new motor. i think im gonna order the cobalts though, sounds the way to go .
