paintball marker help please

So I think I want to get into Paintball....looking mainly at ebay dealers(seem like some good package deals @ 2 or 300 bucks or so) ...any pros or cons of Tippman A5 or Spyder products ??...anything i should stay away from??...Pretty much a total beginner at Paintball so I don't want to drop a ton of money yet but still want some quality...any advise or help is greatly appreciated....thanks guys

When I played, I had a tippmann custom 95 and absolutely loved it. Never had any problems from Tippmann

I recently just got out of paintball, tippmann and spyder are good beginner markers. You start at $100 for a marker and go up to around $2000 for top of the line, stay away from spyder clones, go onto this website www.pbnation.com and start reading, its not as friendly as this forum but its got decent info. The best starter gun would be either a proto slg or a proto pmr, both are decent guns and will be much better than the spyder or tippmann, however the 2 i listed will require high pressure air tanks, and not co2.

you should check out the proto for sure very well made gun,the tippmans are good for the first few times but after that you will realize that you should of stepped it up some. you will learn very quick whats good."thumbsup"

I started with a el cheapo and had it about 1 game before I dropped $2k on a set up that would last. I still have that marker, and it works great. If you never plan to ever play anything but rec ball, the tippman will be fine. But the first time you get lit up with a marker than shoots 20+ balls a second you will throw the tippman in the trash. Its like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

I got started into paintball about 5 months ago. My first marker was a used $50 WGP i bought. I quickly upgraded to a Proto SLG. Its quick, cheap, and a good beginner gun. For 200 bucks (new) you really cant go wrong. But yea. Get an electric marker. Getting shot at with a 20 BPS marker isnt fun. When your shooting one is the fun part :mrgreen:

Too bad i might have to sell my stuff soon. Im broke. LOL!

Good Luck!. Also remember. Get a high pressure air tank and a good electric hopper.

HPA is going to be way more consistent. Cold weather and CO2 don't mix. With HPA, you wont experience any drop off in pressure when you fire a lot. If your going to get an electro you will defiantly need to have HPA.

The SLG is a great starter electro, it will give you a great marker to be competitive with. Its also good if you decide you want to start playing tourneys, you wont have to upgrade to a new marker right away.

The 98 Custom is a hellova beginning marker for the price. Its not a tourney marker, but its a great woodsball gun. You can literally hold it by the barrel and smack it against a tree and it won't hurt it, almost indestructible.

If you want my opinion, I would look for a used mag. They are defiantly one of the best markers I have. I own everything from $120 Tippmanns to $1500 Bob Longs, and if I'm playing a rec game or a game of woodsball I always use my mag. It is one of the easiest guns to work on, and really reliable. And consistent, I swear whenever I use it, I go to crono, shoot a few balls and it is always at 290fps, I haven't had to adjust the velocity in like 2 years. "thumbsup"

I've been thinking about getting into paintball for awhile now, but I've been told that the Spyder VS1 is a great starter gun. And you can get refurbished(sp?) ones for cheap. They also have other packages on there, this is their most expensive package, but still way under your price range. I say give it a go. Everyone I talk to on the paintball forum says this is a great gun.

Yes dude HPA is WAY better than CO2. My first time going i used CO2. and that was the last time. i mean it was good back in the days but now with so much high tech PB stuff its hard to keep up with CO2. HPA is much more reliable.

And also an electric hopper is a good thing to have. You do not want to be messing with shake and shoot hoppers. If you like to shoot alot get an electric one.

Im trigger happy most of the time :mrgreen: LOL. so i go through about a hopper and two pods in a game. (around 200 paintballs) i need to control myself. paint is expensive. LOL!

HAHA. You think thats a lot. When I was playing tourneys I would go onto the field with a full hopper and 6 pods, and usually shoot most of it. And that was a 50-60 dollars a case.

Also your math is a little off, most hoppers hold 150-180 balls plus 2 140 ball pods equals 420+/- balls.:mrgreen:

Really you should stop by a local shop and ask to hold/shoot some of the markers. Either way, the SLG and the 98 Custom are both great markers, and you would not be disappointed with either.

BTW, what type of ball do you plan on playing? Rec, woodsball, scenario, tourneys?

Get a spider pilot acs, i have one and its nice!! you can select semi auto, 3 burst, 6 burst, and auto. mine is blue and ive had it for a while. I love it.

yeah ,the more i read about the Tippmann i like....also i would just be playing rec and woodsball....not really sure what scenario is ....and i'm pretty sure i wont be doing any tourneys in the near future..lol....the local paintball park by me ...Jungle Island in Lake Elsinore ....has several different fields so i mainly want to go play there with some friends that are starting to get interested into paintball also

One of the great things about Tippmann markers is that if anything would ever break(unlikely), anything you fix on it would never cost you more than $20 to repair. They are also very noob friendly, no noids/boards to mess with, just add air, paint, crono and go. Plus the aftermarket support for them is awesome.

With a 98 Custom, a steely 68/4500, a new barrel(I would get a kit, SP Freak or a Empire Revolver) and a Reloader II you would have a set up that would do everything you want it to do. And then you can upgrade the things on it that you want to make better.

Get a Tippmann and you wont be disapointed. "thumbsup"

You will be able to play all day for with 1 bag of paint. Its a little tough in the begining to learn to shoot, but if you have never played you will have no bad semi habits to drop. 1 shot 1 kill.

I'll second that to a point.

Pump play is what got me playing again after I got burnt out on tourneys. Pumps are great fun for vets, but for a noob just getting started, I wouldn't suggest it. Pump play will make you use skills instead of volume of paint. For a new guy with no skills, pump play might turn you off to the entire sport. No new guy wants to go and be out gunned.

I love to play pump against groups of semis, it really keeps the skills sharp.

i have owned a few paintball markers from tippman to spyders and have not had any problems with either brands. i have since sold all of them and gotten a spyder electra for weekend gtg's that we have every once ina while and have absolutely no complaints its a great marker for the money imo. .. .
