im sure they'll get along just fine "thumbsup" nice lookin rigs man. what are your plans for the FJ?

Very nice, there's an old FJ parked by somebody's garage about 30 minutes away from me that looks almost identical to that, minus the front bumper and winch.

First thing is to remove as much rust as possible while still keeping it driveable.

The body lift will be removed and it'll get new quarter panels. Front fenders will disappear and I want to "soften the suspension" so to speak. "thumbsup"

Aww they look so cute in there.

Is that your Dads FJ?

Yeah, that's dad's.

What are you leaking there Jason?

Brain lubricant.

Oh, you meant the Jeep.

The seal around the shift mechanism on the driver's side of the TH350 needs to be replaced and the seal around the transmission dipstick leaks.

They drip just a bit but it bugs me so I stuck my Upgrade RC pit mat under the Jeep. The big spot in the middle of the mat is the Upgrade logo.

ahhh, I see you added a jeep recovery vehicle to the garage :-P

Looks good JIA

:lmao: Uh-huh.

Hey, that FJ looks familiar, lol. Warren quit messing with it?

It's sat for quite a while. It went so long between being driven that he had to keep a can of starter fluid under the driver's seat.

Now I've got it to drive (Nice to have a top in the winter) and work on.

Starting tearing into it this morning.

Removed the winch so I could get the rust off the winch plate, remove that ugly aluminum diamond plate cover, and start getting rid of rust on the thing. I found that what initially appeared to be flakes of metal sloughing off the frame was nothing more than undercoating. There's a good bit of rust but it's not a bad as I had initially suspected...and I thought it would be BAD.

Got that aluminum off so I could start on all the exposed frame and bumper while it's bolted together.

Got a little carried away with the paint/rust removal. The front grille isn't bad but the front fenders are basket cases. I found one spot where bondo was over 1/4" thick.

Stopping for lunch now. Should get more done this afternoon. "thumbsup"

if your gonna remove some why not keep doing it the right way and removed as much as you can right, looks like a great start"thumbsup"

I'd love to yank the tub and drivetrain and drop the frame off to be media blasted while I clean up the axles.

As much as I'd like to do that, I need to keep it driveable through the winter so I'm stuck with slow and steady progress with the grinder and rust discs.

Time to make dad proud."thumbsup""thumbsup"
I've always wanted an FJ.Keep us posted.

Yup, yup.

I figured starting a thread here would be an easy way to keep him updated. "thumbsup"

Got the stock front bumper completely stripped to bare metal. Cleaned it and gave a few coats of Rustoleum's rust-converting paint and let it dry while I continued removing rust from the front section of the frame.

I'd like to get a new front bumper for it but ,for now (and since I'm trying to do the low-buck thing) stripping and painting the stocker will work just fine. As an added bonus the front bumper is now flat black.

I found a benefit to the body lift while working today. It gives me more room to get to the frame.

06' trophy looks a little dusty.

Hopefully one of these days both you and your dad will make it back to Moab. With Rc Crawlers of course .
