Its getting time to get a new phone, I have just about had it with my Centro. The two phones that are on my list are the iPhone and the Driod.

iPhone - Cool, but the poster child for rigid conformity. All apps have to be washed through Apple. The upside is you know all apps will work, the down is not being able to make your own, or try something brand new.

The Driod - The Andriod OS is pretty slick, but there are zero controls for it and each phone and device has a different version, so I can make my own apps and try other apps that haven't been washed through the corperate machine, but those apps could crash the phone.

Thoughts?

Well, I've had my Droid since they first came out and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! Beats the hell out of the Blackberry Storm I was using. I've not had one single issue with the phone. The internet brower is FAST!!! Nearly as fast as my DSL at home!! The phone is easy to use and I've not had a single issue with any of the available apps. One great thing about the phone is the FREE GOOGLE NAVIGATOR!! It works spot on and is free. It is one of the perks of the phone. Other that that, everything about this phone is worth all the hype. Free ringtone downloads, FREE MP3 DOWNLOADS through Imusic app!! FREE yes I said FREE!!!!!!!

Apple, Schmapple.

Iphone is cool but I feel that the Droid is well worth the change. I will do everything you can ask it to do. and yes, you can ask it questions too! Impressed a few clients with it already! This smart phone is truly SMART!

My phone now does the same thing. Punch 7 numbers in and press the green phone button.

I had the BB Storm when in first came out. Bought it in San Diego flew back home to ABQ and 28 days later had a $465 phone bill. The chick at the store had never setup a BB contract. I was paying by the minute for the data. Anyways, it was always freezing running slow. Should of bought an IPhone.

iv had a bunch of phones, never had a blackberry though. my last phone had the droid operating system and it worked good but the phone itself seemed to fall apart rather quickly, especialy for a phone that spent most of its time during the day sitting in my car. so last weekend i canceled my entire verizon plan, dumped the phone and got an iphone. 2 words simply amazing. especially because i have a mac and have always had complications syncing my phone with my comp. the applications from the app store alone make the phone worth the cost. they just started the $99 for the 4 gig. i got the 16gig and put a ton of music and apps and photos on it and it doesnt even slow down at all. i highly rccomend the iphone. besides if notice any reviews on any smart phone, they are all compared to the iphone. it took over the top spot for smart phones from blackberry a long time ago

My Blackberry Storm 2 is slick. I looked at the Droid and it is very nice, but couldn't pass up the 2 free Blackberrys they were offering.

More importantly which Droid?

The Motorola one is having "hang issues", a well known camera issue, and batteries coming out.

nothing will ever be better then the iphone...sorry...even more if it's made by motorola..every Motorola I have owned was junk..
iphone FTW:mrgreen:

never been a big fan of apple's proprietary software

and the droid has been getting some stellar reviews even from some hardcore i phone users

also the fact that im pro open source naturally points me to the droid.

I'll agree with your statement about motorola here, BUT.... In this case, I'd say that motorola finally hit a homerun with the DROID.

Droid for the win!!!!

camera issues were fixed a couple days ago.

Open development for the apps freaking rocks. Your not limited to the rules that apple has imposed. Though there currently isnt as many apps avail, there are hundreds added every day.

a good case keeps the battery in its place, I added the body glove case the day I got it and find that it makes the phone a little easier to handle (not slick like a stock phone).

They also fixed the sound during a call issue and now its crystal clear (was good before).

Its super easy to use as an mp3 player, all you have to do is drag your mp3 files into a folder on the phone (via usb) and play using the music app. Also, you can use any old mp3, not just itunes (and you don't have to convert them to a special format either)

at work we compared the the droid to the iphone and found that the droid has better 3g coverage, better call signal and is easier to use.

I do have 1 complaint... the sound volume button is "smart" so if your app isnt making noise it adjusts the ringer volume. Im always accidently turning down my ringer.

I was always the anti-trend kind of guy: pro-pc, anti-Mac, anti-Starbucks, &c...but after breaking down and trying an iPhone, I'm [still] impressed.

The principle of Apple as "nanny" doesn't taste well on my tongue, but I have been very pleased with everything else this about this phone (and even company ). I had a Apple Genius Bar (customer service) experience that was very impressive - enough to make me give them credit, despite them being "Apple."

The stock mapping/navigation program works great, the GPS is impressively accurate and is faster than my Garmin.
I'm still pleased every time I get to touch a button or swipe the screen: working with the U.I. is simply a joy and is very aesthetically pleasing. It's just so easy.
There are a wide variety of applications that take advantage of the accelerometers and compass, adding to both functionality and entertainment.
My coverage, believe it or not, is more reliable than with previous phones (from Razrs to Blackjacks).
You do have to use iTunes, which is technically a little limiting. A Windows PC user needs to use Windows Explorer to move pictures around, just as you would a USB device, for example. Other than that, I've not had any complaints about data transfer, syncing, &c...

While open development is good, do you know the actual Apple process? Their goal is to help make sure all apps are to their customers high expectations.

Remember there is a reason Apples customer service is so high in both phone, mp3 players, and computers. They quality control the programs, where open development does not.

Wait so you have to immediately buy a case to fix Motorola's design flaw? And your worry is the iPhone being slick. Buy a case, its mandatory on the Motorola Droid, but not mandatory on the iPhone.

iTunes will import many file formats not just their own native one. I've imported over 40GB into my iTunes account from before I had an ipod/iphone most of which are mp3's. They still remain as MP3's on the PC, they are not specially converted.

What about 3G speed? Verizon is one of the slower networks (this is beyond Droid vs. iPhone, this is a network issue). Verizon has the slowest of the major carriers proven time after time by the gadget magazines.

I will say those "maps" that VZW is showing must be wrong. In spots they claim AT&T has no coverage for 3G I did. This includes Reno, Donner Ski Ranch, and Omaha. All crawler events and all spots claimed to be not 3G yet my phone was in 3G mode.

I still like my Blackberry Curve, I have had it about 18 months. Works great. GPS works great, email push is great. No complaints. But where I live sprint does not have any type of 3g service. Its slow, but that is the carrier, not the phone.

I went with the iPhone, and haven't regretted it at all.

I was an Alltel customer, and wanted to go to Verizon, but in the switch from Alltel to Verizon, they fawked up my account, accepted payment, but then threatened credit collection because there was no communication between departments. It brought back all the memories of all of the other bad experiences I've had with Verizon. I used to have my local phone service with them, and, for a while, tried their DSL internet service. They were total fawks to deal with, and I ended up dropping both due to ridiculously poor customer service.

After this, I ended up with AT&T and the iPhone. I got my wife a Nokia e71x, which I like far better than the Blackberrys. For straight business apps & pda & texting, I actually like her Nokia better, but on the whole, my iPhone has proven an invaluable tool. If you're really concerned with open source apps, you can always Jailbreak it...but I'd just as soon keep the phone reliable.

I had their home service as well, and I had nothing but problems. They refused to fix the problem, so I refused to pay them.

Exactly!! "thumbsup"
