To go ... or not to go Brushless?

I am currently running a 55 turn brushless motor with a 2 cell lipo and a 12 tooth pinion on my Losi Comp Crawler. I would like to go brushless only because i hear they have even more torque then a brushed 55 turn. Is this true on low end also? Im not looking for more speed just mostly low-end torque. I may go get a Novac 18.5 turn crawler motor today after work but if this will not benefit me then i could spend my money on other things like the stronger steering servo i desperately need! Thoughts?

been really really happy with my goat 2s and a 20 tooth pinion on a 2 cell. Myself the goat is tried and true. Then again seen a losi setup on the classified page for 100 bucks.

I don't have the goat yet, but will Friday. I'm still new but everything I read and here from local hobby shop, the goat is one of the best at the moment. It's hard not to listen to so many positive remarks about a product. I vote for the goat.

Yeap, go brushless. The torque is amazing. After I ran my Goat 3s with a 21.5, and now a 18.5, I dont know how I ever crawled without it. "thumbsup"

Soooo i take it that a brushless 18.5 or a 21.5 turn has more bottom end torque then a 55 turn brushed motor?!?! If thats the case ... is there a big difference in low end torque between the 18.5 and the 21.5? If the 21.5 is gonna give me more then thats the way im going! "thumbsup"

With the 21.5 and a 15T pinion I could put my foot on one rear tires and pull the throttle a little and the truck would roll right over on its roof. Reverse throttle would set it back on all fours. 3s lipo, 13T pinion. Realy its to much torque because it goes beyond the usable level. Thats why I like the 18.5 better. Torque is in the very usable range, and wheel speed is better.

Alrighty then they just happen to have one Novac 18.5 turn brushless motor left at my local hobby shop. I think i will go pick it up soon! Thanks

Keep in mind that "Oldish" Novak goat speedo is only rated for 2cells lipo. So if you plan on going 3cell you'll have to buy the New Novak Goat 3cell system.... Just something to consider...

Well i have already got a Castle Sidewinder so i was planning on just getting the Brushless motor! Will that work ok together?

NO!! The Castle Sidewinder is a "sensorless" brushless ESC. The Novak Goat 2s and 3s and motors are "sensored" brushless ESC's. The Novak motor willnot work with the Castle Sidewinder. You would have to use a sensorless motor with the Sidewinder, but sensorless is no good for crawlers becouse of coging or low speed stalling issues.

Hey KBrog, I'm new to all this, but I love to read this stuff. I ordered a 21.5T yesterday and will have it next week. The timing on this post was to good to pass up. So here is the question that I can't seem to find an answer to. I also run a 3s Lipo and have a 15T pinion. What I want to know is how fast will it run? I am hoping to hit around 20mph and be able to do donuts on my concrete floor. I currently am running an Integy 75turn brushed. It has amazing torqe but I can almost walk faster than it will run.

Thanks up front!

huh? i'm confused. since when is rock crawling done at 20mph? i bought a RTR axial(yeah i know dumb on my part, wasn't for sure what i wanted) and now all i'm doing is trying to get more torque and slow it down....sorry if i'm getting the wrong impression here?! and hold up a minute if you don't want that 75turn motor send it to me, i'll build something to install it in.....

Well, my creeper is a crawler first and foremost and is definately not done at 20mph. I just want the icing on the cake too. I wanna be able to lay down the hammer and cut donuts on smooth concrete. I figure I need about triple my existing wheel speed for that. Also I've seen some youtube clips where guys running the HH Puller motors had enough speed to jump each other, and paint some pretty circles in the dirt. I'm hoping the Novak 21.5T will give me something comprable. I probably should have went with the HH 7T Puller, but it was out of stock. Also I wanted the longer run time that a bl will hopefully bring.

Venom Creeper
Mamba Max Pro
75S Integy with Novak 21.5T on the way.

Have fun and thanks for the feed back!

yeah after figuring this out i have just decided to get a new ESC and a Brushless motor. I think i am going with the Losi 21.5 brushless motor and ESC, seems to get good reviews and looks to have plenty of torque.
