i recently did this tattoo and figured i would share!
Untitled-3.jpg

tell me what you think!!!

Being around the tattoo industry (my brother is a tattoo artist in Boulder- Rising Tide Tattoo)) I've seen my share of things & have come to appreciate skills & how they show in a tattoo-- it is amazing to see what some folks accept as 'artwork' on their body.:roll:

That's nice work-- I like the combination of color & the detail in the eye.

You want another tattoo artist to comment? I'll hold off untill you say ok. You know as a artist that another tattooist will pick it apart givin the chance. We do it to our own work.....

My tattoo artist calls them not-a-cool stars. I'm in the process of covering mine Haha!

funny when I had that done years ago on the back of my shoulder with the rest of my tattoo, the artist said, now go out there and be a member of the "COOL" society, now I know why..........................FAWK,FAWK,FAWK!!!!!!!:x

i appreciate any and all comments! good and bad, i have only been tattooing for 3 years. so any criticism i get is constructive criticism!!!! i know there are a couple flaws! but i can feel myself getting better so, give me a year or two and my work will be flawless! alot of tattoo artist that i know are not as good as me and have been tattooing for 15-20 years!
so i think im doing good for 3 years and under 250 tattoos under my belt!"thumbsup"

and this was my first koi!

Both tattoos look nice. "thumbsup"

I keep thinking about getting one....but have no idea what I want. Gotta be small and in a place I can conceal though. :lmao:

I think for 3 years you are doing great"thumbsup" you are at a point in your career that you are going to try and bite off more than you can chew though. It happened to every one of us when we were getting started tattooing. Just looking at the two you posted I would say first that you need to work on your line work. Start playing with different needles. For thicker lines get away from trying to build them up and just use a 7-9 liner for the thick stuff. Some tattoos I use 3 different liners. As for shading I would say work on your blending. You colors are start and stop, they don't flow or blend. Look at your coy, the orange stops and the yellow starts. It should fade into each other. Are you using mags or rounds? I hope mags, rounds suck for blending. What ink are you using? I've used Intenze for years and just switched back to Skin Candy. The SC is just sick now:twisted:! Also what machines and power supply are you using?

Just remember that everyday you tattoo is a learning experience. The day you think you know it all is the day you should quit. Take time away from your shop to travel and see other artist. It's the best way to learn daddy-0. You are on the right path and doing a good job"thumbsup" just start working on the basics again, line work, shading, color mixing, machine setup, needles..... Use the best stuff! A cheap machine, power supply, needles and most important, ink! All of these things will determine how that tattoo will look done. And when you tattoo someone and you know you can make that tattoo better bring that customer back in and fix it!

I say all of this in the most positive way daddy-0! I pick apart all of my tattoos also. It's the only way we get better. Remember, a tattoo is forever. Give 1000% every time. No matter if it's a $50 tattoo or a $500 tattoo. Treat each one the same!

i run neumas most of the time. right now im using one of a kind coil machines built by snake. i try to use only king pin needles. i use disposable plastic tubes. for lining i use 3rl, 5rl,5rs for long big lines. for shading i use 7mag,9mag,13mag. right now i use moms and a couple others. i know that a tattoo is forever and that why my clients get a lifetime touch up for free! i apprenticed under Dale the nail. long story short, he dipped out and moved to texas without telling us and just left us hangin. both me and my girl were apprenticing, we were about a month away from becoming full time artists and thats when he dipped....

thank you for your kind words and suggestions! i really appreciate it. do yo have a myspace or facebook? i would like to see some of your work!

thank you!

i have done a couple invisible tattoos. they have a black light ink that is pretty much invisible to the human eye until you go under a black light and it shows up white!"thumbsup"

The Koi is nice, but I think the stars ruin it... at least there weren't any Japanese characters though. "thumbsup" I'd like to get a tattoo or two someday, just need to find the right artist.

These are great pieces, especially for only three years into it.

The Koi could use some Wip shading like Kenny mentioned. More gradients couldve made that thing pop alot more. Still, killer work. I have no issue with the Nautical stars. I have a few and they have meaning. I hate the kids who get them just because they look cool and have no idea what they mean, its traditional tattoo art!

The face is great, I like the shading, but the one thing that sticks out is the mouth. Why did you hard line the mouth? Seems it wouldve been better shaded like the nose and the rest of the piece.

Im no professional, but I am striving to learn as well. Just practacing on pig and my art.
