Lipo chargers - Best one under a $100

I've just bought a L-Trail MRC and it uses 2S lipos. I'm still in the dark ages with my nimh's. What charger would you recommend for under $100? Also what kind of battery specs should I be looking for? Meaning what mah's and 20c, 25c, etc? Any help would be appreciated. Thx!

You will need an adaptor for whatever balance tap you decide on.

Check your dimentions and select a lipo with a 25-30C rating that will fit.

Remember lipos do not need a breaking in, do not have memory, should not be run to below 3.0v per cell, and should be store at 3.8v per cell.
If you want them to last balance charge them every time.

IMHO,the Hyperion chargers are about the best. Absolutely love both of mine. SUPER easy to use with an internal balancer. I like having an internal balancer myself. Less stuff to pack around. Allot easier to keep up with,just plug and play.

Pretty fair amount under $100 for a couple great chargers."thumbsup"

As far as C rating. IMHO,you shouldn't go under 25c continuous/35c burst. Low C rated packs can swell if you drain them to fast. Hot motors,tall gearing and/or heavier trucks can really draw the power fast. Granted,a 1.9 probably wouldn't need a 25c rated pack,if you ever need to put the pack in a bigger 2.2 or something,the pack would be up for the task."thumbsup" Saves money in the long run since your packs can be used in several models. In a nutshell,higher C rated packs can dump power faster for longer periods without failure. There's allot to it though. Here's a couple good reads....

X2! These are pretty much fool proof and very safe chargers. I have two of these and they are great. Just plug the charger to your lipo's ballance plug and let it do the rest "thumbsup"

Most lipo fires are caused by chargers set to charge a different type of battery or set to charge lipos with higher cell count than the one connected. This wont happen with the FMA carger since it is a lipo only charger and it charges each cell separately through the ballance plug of your battery. You always end up with a perfectly ballanced pack after charging

I'm old fashion i guess the duratraxx ice is in my opinion the most versatile and user friendly. The only downfall is there is balancer included. The equinox is a great partner for the ICE happy hunting "thumbsup"

I'm running the Thunder AC6 and it seems to work great. I did have the first ones power supply fail but it was quickly replaced with no issues. I only wanted an Ac/Dc charger for convience. I charge several batteries in parallel without any problems. $55

I agree, I have this charger and it will charge anything you have, or will have.

You can also buy a insert for your power point(at radio shack) and charge your batt's on the way to the comp, or scaling, which ever you prefer."thumbsup"

AWESOME! Thanks for all the info. I think I've narrowed it down to the Cell-Pro, Thunder AC6 or Hyperion EOS0606I. I haven't read up on all of these yet but i will today.

I have the EOS0606I and am really glad the club members talked me into it. The AC charge capability is perfect for charging all my batteries the night before a comp and then at the comp I have the charger and a 12V gel cell (a starter box battery) mounted in the top of my tool box for charging on the fly.

AWESOME! Thanks for all the info. I think I've narrowed it down to the Cell-Pro, Thunder AC6 or Hyperion EOS0606I. I haven't read up on all of these yet but i will today.

You can't go wrong with either the Cell pro or the Hyperion. One feature I didn't mention on the Cell Pro is it has a recovery mode. If you accidently discharge below 3.0v/cell it goes into a slow charge cell by cell to recover the pack. I doesn't always work but I've recovered packs that my friends Hyperion could not.
