Sheldons Hobbies RC Crawling course

its free right now. i think because aj is looking for feedback on the course.
ill be there tonight also. scaler and comp "thumbsup"

They charging to use the course?

I went by today to check it out. They are charging $5 to be IN the area. The traction didn't seem very good and only a one or two lines. If anyone actually pays him to drive on it. I'll open up my home course for $4  I love how they set up a crawling course and still don't carry shit for crawler parts. I'm sorry but Sheldons is lame! Poor selection, crappier service. That's just my opinion.

Anyone know who built the course? Just curious

^were you able to give sheldons any of that feedback? i know they're trying to develop the area and the shop to cater to crawlers more.

as of 7:20 last night it's still free to crawl there.

The course seems pretty cool. I'm a noob at crawling though:cry:. But I should be down there today with my scaler trying it out. I was there last night with Lunar helping AJ put some touches on it.

I went in there yesterday to play for a bit and he had a chain and sign hanging to buy your rock pass for $5.00. I turned around and walked out. Drove 5 min down the road to Trimble and had all the rocks I could want for free. I agree with Dave. Sheldons has not carried chit for crawler parts for a while now.

well.....
if you guys are unhappy with this maybe either give this thread/link to Sheldons or say it to his face as the shop. I think its a great idea and its cheap entertainment and i would pay the 5.00 for this course. Think about it... i take my 5yr old boy to the video games for 10.00 and it lasts a whopping 10-15 minutes at most. i say awesome to Sheldons for their efforts and ideas. Yes, it would be beneficial for them to start to stockpiling (overhead) parts for most popular rigs we own.

my rant.fin.

Nobody said a word to us for the 30+ minutes we were there. I said they were charging because of the sign that said $5 fee.

I have a question? If you've crawled there and liked it, where else have you crawled?

I went by today looking for some parts that he didn't have in stock. He looked it up and told me he was going to bring in a few. I think it will get better once they get more crawlers in and start requesting parts.

In my opinion I think it's better to go to his dad's store more of a selection of crawler parts. But that just me and I live out in fremont.

You know playgrounds offer endless entertainment for free. Plus if you find a good one you can crawl while they run around like a chicken on meth.

On a serious note; think about it. In a business sense, he did it all backwards. Carry some upgrades to get people in then ask what the niche would like him to carry, then build the course to see what parts are breaking, then stock the replacements. I'm not going to help either AJ or Andy do their market research(aka homework). I haven't seen AJ there the last half a dozen times I've been there. Now if he asks I'll give him my opinion. I only talk to Dan when I go into RC Unlimited. I ignore Andy since he bad mouthed Brian at Hobbytown SJ. Brian asked, listened and gave back, great guy and I miss his store.

i all agree with you guys..

i managed to go to sheldons a few weeks before they officially opened the course.. i brought along my 1.9 comp and met Gardenwelder there.. that course was way too easy for it..

but here are some notes on the course: looks more for scalers
Pros:
-Nice looking theme
-like the concept, of the mountain/volcano
-made for an "expidition" look

Cons:
-there is a bucket of water, which shorted my old Servo.
-Not enough traction
-Now charging/enter the course $5?, waste of money.
-Dont carry almost any crawler parts, which is sad
-Workers seem to have no experience with crawlers.
-when i was there, someone said "that wont crawl at all". i showed him wrong! lol:lmao:

About sheldons: Ive only been there a few times. maybe 3-4 times.. through those times, ive had bad service there..

one time: i needed a part for my comp, its a losi, the guy behind the counters like. "you should trash that crawler, and buy an axial from here" i felt pretty offended, since it was my first crawler, and it was the crawler ive had for such a long time, and just love it.

another time: I asked him about a brushless system for my touring kit.. like a castle, and he thought it was for a drifter.. so he says "if you dont buy here, dont come back"

I mean its their decision to kick people out, but their just really loosing money, customers and news is going to get spread.

IMO, i would rather try Rck's course for $4. theres no preasure!. also, i would just save the $5 on parts, and go to a local spot like greystone, linda vista, or another spot.

Man, that place needs some help...better send Sheldon up to HT for some pointers on building a proper indoor crawler spot.

Sheldons really need sone help.. They need better/nicer/more knowledgable employees, more parts for crawlers, and need to lower their prices a bit..

I can get parts from my lhs for like $1-5 cheaper than sheldons. Of course it depends on the part I need, but the price is just ridiculous at sheldons
