Paypal gift...

For a sale of $100 the seller is out $3, but you put yourself at risk of losing $100. Protect yourself first! If someone is too lazy to figure in a PayPal fee, then they aren't someone I would do business with.

When I sell, I figure in shipping and PayPal fees and price accordingly. Once in awhile I do get payments as gifts, but I would never ask someone to do it.

I don't send as a gift unless I personally know the person.
Don't like not having the option to dispute a bad deal.
If they really need that 3% I send it to cover my butt.

Never asked for payment as a gift, and won't send it either. Paypal deserves to get money for the service they provide. period. 3% is such a tiny amount for instant money. It's like asking the postal service to send mail for free.

I also think that if you are going to put something up for sale and accept paypal, just set your price so you can cover the paypal fee. Don't make it anymore complicated than it needs to be.

I agree with 99% of the replies here. I have had issues with a vendor before too though, although they didnt ask for "gift" payment. I think the BST forum should have a rule not to allow the seller to mention they want payment as a gift. That way no one can get screwed over. If the seller insists on "Gift" payment I'll just tell them I'll pay as "merchandise" and after it arrives I'll "gift them the amount that was taken out by fees. This is only when I absolutely "need" the item

You know, I guess I never looked at it that way...nor have I ever wanted to screw someone over, you pay hard earned money..you deserve your product. So I can understand Youngbloods pm that he sent to me about the "gift" part...sadly Ive used paypal for years, and never seen an issue with it, but if people want to pay the 3% fee's...thats personal preference for security. To me Id rather be honest, than know for being a thief, or a liar.

however, there is a cure to that on this forum.

On a Ballcard forum, they had a system that was coded into the forums. Until you had x amount of sales done through the forum's you sent first before payment was issued. Yes it sucked, but I can say it stops the bs from people from screwing you over. Yes it does require that both parties submit feedback for each other...(kind of the lack I have seen from people in this forum)

But when you come across a situation where the seller has more sales than the buyer, since either they were new, or just never did any business on the site...then it does boil down to what the seller wants to do. Stops the cheats from screwing over such a nice place. And trust me I paid more for cards that most of the stuff I have seen on this forum...and even sent more as well.
Like I said they had this elaborate set-up coded into the site, and it worked flawless...there was a trade manager, that took care of all the stuff, and you posted what each person did or would do. And both parties had to agree to it. But when you end up sending before payment...within the first 20 sales...you gain trust with people...its almost the same as it takes 30 post's of relevant material to even gain access to the sales part here, unless you pay 20 bucks to get the star

I sent youngblood $800,000,998,432,098.69 via PayPal gift and never received my reach around!! What should I do?

gee a $1,000.00 sale will be a $30.00 PP fee at 3% gezz folks just fork over the $30 bucks from the $1,000 ya just made  "thumbsup" ..........bob

....

I've just recently started getting GIFT requests and I don't like it. Most people are selling their items high enough to not ask for GIFT payments. Another thing that sucks is when you find something in the for sale section and it says OR MAKE OFFER then when you offer a fair price they reply that they will not lower the price..... Don't put OR MAKE OFFER on your ad if you won't accept fair offers.

How much does a credit card charge a vendor to process a transaction? Same concept here. That's the cost of doing business....nothing is free.

I know I bought an item from someone here, and when I paid, he PM'd me that I did not pay via GIFT. We 'talked' about it through PM and he sold it to me anyways, but then he gave me grief that he got less money and that makes it tight for him because he has 4 kids to support.

I bought something for $20, shipped...that was 60cents in fees. Really?!?! Did I hurt your finances that much because I didnt GIFT the payment? If so, then maybe you shouldnt be in the RC hobby because this damn hobby is a money pit!!

I am leary of the gift request, so I am glad this topic came up. My remedy is if the price is $20 shipped I just send like $22 as a goods transfer and let the seller know what I did. Haven't had a problem yet. If you the buyer cannot afford one or two dollars then you have a spending problem or need to get a job. If you the seller are not wise enough to think to include these things in your price before hand and make it worth the trouble to actually sell the item then you the seller should not be selling.

Seeing as I deal with this the fees vary depending on what CC is used, what service processes payment for you, and how the payment was processed.

For example, My CC fees can range from 1.5% to 4%. If I have the card electronically on file I pay a least amount. If I do a single swipe of a physical card a pay a little more, for hand entered cc numbers I pay the highest typically. American Express typically charges higher fees than visa or MC.

Sometimes for me accepting paypal is cheaper and easier. If you process through paypal then they pay the CC a prearranged fee amount. They also pay for the electronic transfers when you move money around. They have costs involved in each transaction and also have their infrastructure costs.

PP has their +'s and -'s but all in all the provide a very convenient service that works pretty darn well.

I always figure my PP fees into the pricing with shipping. I mostly ship flat rate USPS which makes things easy. Maybe I have a little extra room in the box but hey, it's typically cheaper or the same price.

To me, paying a 3% fee to be able to instantly get your cash, and accept multiple forms of payment as an individual is well worth it.

Yep....I knew that. I use my AmEx for a LOT of purchases and sometimes places wont accept that card. They are THE BEST about refunding a person their money. Their Fraud Detection works awesome too! I've had them contact me within an hour of a charge being made that was detected as "fraud" and had a new card in my hand that next morning.

Yes they are, Amex is the Cadillac of CC companies. Don't believe it, ask someone who owns an Amex Black Card...............People will worship the ground you walk on if you flash one of those.

Had my wallet stolen at IAH in 2005. Figured it out within about two minutes, it was a bump job. Luckily for me when I travel I keep my wallet and ID separately in case of issues. Called Amex, the cancelled the card and had my new one the Fedexed next morning with no charge to me.

totally agree, ive sold several items on here and on some i took an offer because i wrote OBO. ive also made fair offers only to be told "i wanna get back what i paid" WTF its used not new ,i dont care what you paid and i gave a fair offer and i still see there ads because it hasn,t sold. and on a side note to those of you to lazy to put a pic of what your selling you wont get my buisness or most others unless ive dealt with you before and know you are trustworthy.

Sorry to bump an old thread.

I bought an item from someone on another forum and he bitched about $1.75 fee he incurred as I didn't send it as "money owed" like he requested.

I caved and sent him the $1.75 and it cost me .30 to send it as a gift.
Maybe he could knock that off of his price and refund the .30 back to me?

According to paypal buyers shouldn't pay fees. Sellers should pay fees, can't the fees just be figured into price?
