I wonder what rule she is breaking. I wonder if they specifically state "no living in your garage"....or if it something that has quite a bit of wiggle room...

HOA board members are elected in....and they can be elected out. She needs to get all of her neighbors together, and let the HOA know that there will be changes during the next election.

Seriously, that's f'd up. Someone probably ticked because they see a bunch of people gathering in an area or slowing access to their own garage. Someone's obviously more than a little uptight about the local regulations.

I don't see a problem either. She isn't actually living in the garage, it even says she doesn't have running water or a bed. Leave her be, it's another case of "bitty nation". "I don't like anything so I am going to make everyone else miserable"

if they have some rule against it, then obviously they have a time limit you can spend in your garage... and anything above that is "living" in it. i'd be curious what the time limit is. as for the members of the HOA are elected, this used to be true...but more and more HOA's are being turned over to managment companies that run the neighborhood. the last one i lived in was managed by some company out of state and had no actual home owners in the area working for them. it's all a crock, it's more fun in the country anyway.

most nieghborhoods have CC&R's, and all condo's and Town homes have HOA's . they all mostly cover the same type of stuff, just stop people mostly from visually degrading the neighborhood, cars on lawns, business run from homes, excessive home addons, 20 foot fences, auto shops, there a lot of stuff in there... really all it takes is one person to make devalue the homes on a street its more of a protection for everybody.. i don't think i would invest in a neighborhood without CC&R's.

but they are run by people and people have cliques, and if your not in the in, you can be picked on for petty crap that's for sure.

So now spending time on your property, in your garage is considered using it as living space? What about changing the oil on your vehicle, working on your child's bike, doing maintenance on your lawn equipment, working on your RC car, etc...

I used to own a house in a neighborhood that had a HOA. I was written many letters and given nasty phone calls about my work van and that commercial vehicles were not allowed in the neighborhood. I asked them to show me in a wriiten copy of the HOA agreement where this was. After 6 months of them sending letters and calling me, I faxed the entire 18 page HOA agreement to the management company and to each member of the board of trustees. They didn't even bother to call me to verify that they were wrong. Screw HOA's. The only reason I bought that house was because the HOA didn't prohibit commercial vehicles.

See, in that instance, you should just ask to prove to them that it is a commercial vehicle.....prove that you didnt buy it from said company that forgot to remove their logo from the side of the van and their tools from the back.

im glad we live in an unrestricted area. because out behind our house it looks like sanford and son 'course we do live on an acre. but our house is all remodeled and is all brand new and kept clean. we live in one of those areas where the property can be commercial.

When we were in the market for a house the realtor kept showing us houses in HOA areas. I told her from the start, and kept telling her, that I will not buy a house in a HOA area.

It's too bad for her, but if you move into an HOA area then you gave up your right live how you want. You are now at the mercy of a bunch of jackasses who can't wait to tell you how to live.
