Tommy R's TTC Build - "Big Oly"

I'm glad it's working for you Tommy. Is the rear steer set up with steps or does it just swing from side to side? I have mine set up with 13 steps so I have fairly minor increments to steer it with. I'm not sure how the 4pl works. Hope you can get the bump steer out of it...that's not good for the rear. I decided to drop the money on Super 300's for mine.....ouch .

Thanks, Tim. I've got it set up (at the moment) with 5 steps in each direction. And the button is awfully convenient. I have the option of having it step in one of several increments, but I think 5 should work well. I don't have a "return to center" button like I'd hoped, but I can hold the button down and it'll quickly cycle to the center and stop. That's good enough for me! :ror:

I bought all the super 300's anyways...no soup for you:lmao:

Rig is getting better everyday Tommy, cant wait to see it at MSD scale nats"thumbsup"

Devlin, you bastage!! :lmao: I may consider Super 300s if I weren't trying to finish another rig at the same time ($$$$). But I'm sure the "cheap azz" axles will do me fine.

They will be fine. It not like you running summit trans, 1/8 truggy motor and 22v.

If you have belt sander, sand the cups down then use counter sunk bit to re-bevel the cup.

That's pretty much the plan! I'll take off 1/8" and then bevel the inside of the cup. "thumbsup"

I decided to order up another Hand Bros. 3 link mount for the rear. I'll cannibalize the front one for now so I can finish mocking everything up.

Fabwork is done. Disassembly is done. Heading to a friend's shop tonight to blast it and begin the painting procedure. After that, it'll be time for final re-assembly (I hope!).

Cruddy pic, but if you look closely you can see the rear steer servo mount and the track bar mount underneath the passenger side framerail.

Looks good! Is it done yet?

Thanks, but no, it's far from done! :) I did a little more fab and clean-up work to the chassis today. I'll likely start priming it tomorrow or Tuesday.

I did find out that I had a bearing going out in my transmission! If y'all remember, after my last scale outing the batteries were dying quickly. I attributed that to a few causes I later discovered, but I also suspected the transmission. Well, it's now rebuilt again and spinning as freely as it should! "thumbsup"

Chassis looks great Tommy....
Shoot that sucker in silver 'flake with yer favorite candy color along all the welds...haha....

Mmmmm.......Popcicles.....

That sounds way too much like work if you ask me! :ror: Unless I get a wild hair real soon and decide to powdercoat it, I'm envisioning just a coat of self-etching primer, a glossy basecoat, and some clear. End of story!

Same colour as before or are you going with something different? Either way, can't wait to see it all built up again.

Ok, I got to ask, how do you get your skid plate in with the chassis rail brazed in position? I cut the top of the rail so I could get mine in, in the Exo Cage Clod.

Basecoat shouldn't be glossy when it dries....8)

How about a gold base and a yellow candy over it??? Would look like beer....
Mmmmm......

It'll be some shade of blue. The original Big Oly had blue tubework and I'd like to keep that general theme, as well. I'll consider other options, but I'm making a decision soon! 8)

I cut off the locating pins on the side of the skid first. Then all I need to do is pull the frame rails apart and I can just barely get the skid into place. I need to make sure I eat my Wheaties first, though!! :ror:

Oh, you know what I mean! :flipoff: I like the beer idea, but as I mentioned to ecoli, I think it'll end up a shade of blue like the O.G. :)

Here's a couple pics of the original for reference....

But I'm thinking of trying a glossy, non-metallic blue this time. Not sure I have the time to try to source the right shade of metallic.
