HUGE insight on fords new diesel

overly comlex with more point for failure. It seems that they keep trying to make vehicles more and more complex.

They took a diesel engine that is the simplest form of a ICE and gave it more parts than a gas engine.

That's good info right there. I'm glad Ford finally took the reigns and started building their own motors again! I like my '07 PS but, don't think for a minute I wouldn't drop it for a new truck if I could afford it...only problem is they don't offer the same color anymore..."thumbsup"

All of those "complications" are due to government requirements...if they could build it simpler and cheaper I'm sure they would.

I'm not a huge Ford fan , i really like Chevy's better. But I can tell you one thing for sure , Ford makes the toughest truck around period. We had 45 idiots driving trucks in the oilfield here , and Fords are the toughest. We tried everything , even a couple of Toyotas. Next would be Dodge , the undercarrige is real strong , but the bodies fall off. Chevy's are too low , and the front ends just dont hold up at all.
just my .02

chevys are road queens for sure

Not to derail this diesel thread, but I've been looking at getting a new truck fairly soon, after test driving a new Chevy and the new Ford eco boost F-150 I'm sold on the ford so far. (and I'm a chevy guy:oops:)
Still need to check out the Dodge, but I'm wanting a new crew cab SB truck.
My old 94 ex cab Chevy (with some mods) has more get up and go than a new 1500 chevy. (and I mean a VERY noticable difference.)

The powerstroke engines were all made to Ford specs, and the late 7.3 was by far the best of all of them. So before you bash international too much, the plant tthat made those engines was an American plant suppling American jobs, the new Ford made engine isn't. I own an 03' with a 6.0 and can't say anything bad about it, its got 185k and still runs great and all stock and besides that I refuse to invest $60k into a truck or any vehicle to drive everyday. :flipoff:

Ford should have never left the 7.3. I understand the need to go DI to keep up with the Cummins and the DuraMax, but that engine was a workhorse. I still think the 24v Cummins is the best out of them though( I drive a 2001 with this engine). Worst part about all of them right now (IMO) is the exhaust systems.

All government right there. in order to meat emissions but still have the power everyone wants/needs then some very complex stuff needs to happen

I found the fix for the Ford diesels.... www.destroked.com "thumbsup"

No thats the problem, when a ford is no longer a stroker and starts cummin it just dies and can't keep up. No energy, no motivation to go the distance

Now there's a chevy fan i think i can get along with.

Except for the Raptor's frame

Its gotta take a serious beating before that frame bends...i'm sure you'd just trash a chevy if it was todo what a raptor was doing when its frame bent

chevys are road queens for sure

x2, and they don't even look go when lifted if you wanted to take em in some dirt.

You have no idea how good a Cummins is. An inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel is where its at. Its a real workhorse. Most highway tractors(Semi) have inline turbo 6s.

Its been said all over the diesel forums for years... a Ford truck with a Cummins is the ultimate platform. Most reliable engine and chassis mixed together in a wonderful diesel creation.

I have yet to ride in a Powerstroke that impressed me. I have been in a few fast Shittymaxes and lots of fast Cummins.

I'm no Fanboy. I like whatever works better and will switch when better comes along.

No i know plenty well how good a cummins is, my step dad runs a trucking & hotshot business, and my dad is one of the best diesel mechanics here locally...Its just just a saying i got when people star talkin about swapin cummins :ror:

As for the powerstroke vs cummins . I do agree that ford hasn't put out alot of good diesel engine, however once all the bugs were fixed they prove to be a reliable engine to have, except afew of them. ..cummins is the only thing that keeps dodge competing with the big boys, otherwise i think a toyota would be a better truck than any dodge, and actually toy's and nissans aren't doing to bad here lately when it comes to towing, but i'd still buy a new half ton ford over them....

Now my 2 cents of this new power stroke is that it's going to give cummins a run for its money if it proves the test of time, and its the first year of production, i'm sure ford will have plenty more money put into r&d over the next few years..improving it even more.

I have been told by a couple of locals that they are getting high teens for mpg towing with the newest ford diesels. As far as driving goes, my Tundra which was built here in the USA is 10x better than my F450. My Toyota has not seen the dealership in 2 years, my Ford has been towed to the dealership more than 2 times this year alone.

Maybe you should buy one of these

Good luck passing 2011 emissions with a 12v or 24v 5.9l. The 6.7l I6 isn't what the 5.9l was by a long shot.

The government needs to stay out of the car business both monetarily and regulatory. They have proven time and time again everything they touch goes to shit.
