so....

i have been thinking about a new design for some time now.... actually, to be fair, it has been haunting me and i have had many sleepless nights over it!

not just another shape or different looking cab, but something i think is slightly different.

same y-town bj styling with a little different take on the structure. it may be considered a unibody in the end, but it was designed to be the absolute lightest bodyless chassis to date, at 1.8 oz, but still maintain a durable and rigid base.

to do this i would have to remove all the weight that was left... the braces and hardware.

this chassis will only have the upper,lower and shock hardware on it, basically eliminating all the delrin braces and hardware involved.

the chassis is completly carbon fiber and actually snaps or clicks together before being epoxied together.

this is a "true" prototype chassis that i have put together for testing. i have to thank my "napkin art" interpreting brother for getting my thoughts into a cuttable file."thumbsup"

first are the clear lexan panels i cut to make sure we had the parts meshing together right.

now on to the carbon fiber!

I would say it looks OK. Nothing to brag about.

I think the reason you could not sleep was thinking how much you wanted to make those new super tires for me ( again using my best Jedi mind trick voice).

the epoxy has cured, and the chassis feels very strong!

i would say every bit as strong as the bolted together version"thumbsup"

here is a underside view of the hood and brace joint.

i am working on another andi know people are questioning the strenghth of the chassis but maybe seeing how it goes together before it gets epoxied will ease that.

this is one of the braces locking into the base plates.

got a good tip that i will be using on this one from a friend.....can anyone guess what the added holes will be for?

I thought that to but figured it was too obvious although Im sure the correct answer.

every thing can be easily accessed with the body panels removed.

I would bet that epoxy is pretty perminent...wouldn't you? :mrgreen:

I would have to say thread then, it is super strong when wrapped several times and would soak up the epoxy for a solid joint...yes, no, maybe?
