Sorry mods if this is the wrong place, I apologize, but thought what better place for my question of WHY.

Why is it that almost NOBODY on these classifieds will ship outside the USA ? All you have to do is write a different address on the package and go to the post office... Its just like shipping within the USA only a bit more money. If I pay the shipping I don't see the problem. all the EBAY sellers do it..

Come on Guys its 2011 with PayPal and USPS we can make a deal.:)

i dont think its really the issue of shipping it, i personally believe its a matter of the item getting lost while getting shipped over seas, and not making it to the buyer.

Then the buyer may think it was never shipped. Ive lost many packages that were sent over seas.

Yep.I ship out of country, but my price is always conus

Then if its out of country, its undersdtood that the price of poker will go up.
Also its not as easy as writting just a different address.

I have to take extra care in the packaging, more wrap, ect. And then fill out the
customs forms, and its not always the same form.It will depend on size, weight, ect.
And I cant get delivery or sig confermation and insurance is max at $50

so shipping out of country really is a hasle IMO

I ship internationally sometimes. Depends on how I feel that day.

Don't do it as often for the reason stated above. I really don't want to deal with the package getting lost, damaged, etc. And no tracking on most of the shipment types.

I ship international all the time "thumbsup"

I've shipped everything from first class to express. And it is abit of a hassle for people who don't know how todo it, often times buyers want cheap shipping which ='s no insurance for the seller*, shipping international can be intimidating maybe. And then often times international buyers get pissed if you follow the law and mark customs form appropriately (as merchandise and actual value). and often times there's a language barrier.

*-The customs form number will prove that you shipped it if a paypal dispute is filed. This # does say that the item was accepted at the post office. But no tracking after than on the small form, if its a large for for priority or an express mail form your good to go w/ tracking.

Its a small town of 500 people here,so I know the postmaster personally.
I have asked the safest way to ship with usps,he said unfortunatly that once it leaves our shores, its out of thier hands and at that point those #'s dont amount to a pile of beans

Agreed. I was told the same thing.

My town isn't much bigger, 3,000 people.

Anyways...the little form means diddly squat after its been accepted, the bigger form on priority mail is supposed to be scanned but isn't always. BUT EMS is supposed to be and nearly always is scanned. Not at every check point but delivery, through customs, etc.

Anything that is insured usually gets good treatment.

Now this only applies to country's sophisticated enough to have computers at their post offices...

But yea i agree...my point was though, if a PP dispute comes up, the customs form # is proof it was shipped. As the customs form has to be accepted at the PO before it can shipped.

either way, shipping international sux IMO,but I will do it if the person has been good to deal with.

I can have all my flat rate boxes labeled and ready to drop, but the out of country stuff takes more time.especially not good if you show up like 5 min till closing.

So far I have not had anything missing out of country, just local stuff that was my fault (didnt tape flat rate box)

So, if you only ship in the US, why put CONUS?

You don't consider Alaska & Hawaii a part of the US? Flat rate is flat rate.

Man, I've been wanting to ask this question for some time now. I know some people don't want to ship to Hawaii and Alaska because they think we are international, but we're not. If you live in NY and ship a small USPS flat rate box to CA for $5.00, it's the same price to Hawaii or Alaska. Most times the seller will change his or her mind when I talk to them, but others won't. That's cool, but at least give us a chance to ask. I've posted ads that stated I will ship to the lower 48 and Alaska and I do, but I'm also trying to make a point about it. Anyway, end of my rant. Sorry international guys, didn't mean to steal your thread.

Not really,I have shipped to hawaii and it was more as I rememer
so I looked it up,though they do consider hawaii domestic, but I recall it cost me more to ship there.
Maybe the weight limit iis lower on the same box?

But really, hawaii isnt part of the conus, alaska can argue the point, but not Hawaii,Your an island
Nothing about that says continent.
I mean if you have to fly,or take a boat, its not continental:)

But your link is showing the times that it takes to deliver, not the price. This one shows the flat rate shipping to domestic locals. http://faq.usps.com/eCustomer/iq/us...hawaii&topicAndSubtopic=Customer Service$ALL

It's those long URL's. They suck. Anyway, not looking to blow this up bigger than it has to be. Just trying to understand why is all. Bottom line is yeah, Hawaii is some small Islands, not joined to the CONUS, but we are the 50th State of the United States of America and to us CONUS is just one big island not attached to us. Flat rate is flat rate to any U.S. destination.

The point DTP is making is that people say they only ship within the US then say only CONUS. If you say you ship within the US then that includes Alaska and Hawaii because we are a part of the US. It would be like me saying "I'll ship worldwide, but only if you live in the US."

While it is somewhat true that shipping to Hawaii MAY be higher it all depends how you do it. If it's something small then using USPS 1st Class Maill isn't much different whether it's CONUS or all 50. And I've shipped and entire Summit trans through USPS 1st Class w/ del conf. And 1st Class is as fast if not faster than Priority.

Now if it's something bigger than is starts getting cloudy. As said above flat rate is flat rate no matter where you ship min the US including AK and HI. But I know if you use a non flat rate box it's noticeably cheaper to ship CONUS. So I totally understand when sellers have items much smaller or much larger than a flat rate box.

The only part I don't understand is why some sellers ask us to pay for ALL the shipping in addition to shipped prices just because we're not CONUS. I mean it's not like they weren't going to pay anything for shipping in the first place!

I don't blame the people that won't ship O.S. If your postal system is anything like ours it's overpriced and just an all round pain in the rear end to ship O.S. It's probably not so bad for the big vendors who can have it all set up to print the forms automatically and who package stuff well anyway, but for your average joe it's just not worth the hassle.

Just my 2c

i cannot understand where is the problem, if i ship O.S. i will use EMS from italy, simply and medium economic but first with tracking!!! even if, as the post web site say that is not possible, we can find also a package sent by flat usps, if you have 5 minutes to call the costumer service, i have never lost a box, nor shipped nor to have recived, many year of trading and many items bought and sold....

( sorry for my english! )

about the time at the post office, is simple to solve, ask to the man to give you the form blank, make few copy and fil it at home, after the shipping is 5 minutes, also at the end of the day!

my 2 cents

I've found most people are pretty good on here about shipping to Canada. Even if it says US shipping, if it's something I really "need" I'll often pm the person and offer to cover the extra shipping. Having lots of good feedback probably gives people an extra sense of security.

When shipping with USPS to Canada, you can definitely get adequate insurance, tracking and signature confirmation. The problem with overseas is it's so expensive, it's usually not worthwhile. I know shipping to the US I'm usually looking at $15 minimum for a small package. Overseas we're talking $40 or more. If the item is only worth $50 to start with, it's usually not worthwhile for the person.
