I never got an answer in my build thread so here goes.

I have an RC4WD R2 transmission and a 55 Turn Novak in my scaler currently. It is pretty slow, doesn't even really fling mud:cry:. I have a 12 Turn Nitronite 540, a 27 Turn Exceed 540, Velineon 3500KV and a Trackstar 3000KV. I do know I want more wheel speed. I don't need to go 40 but this 3-6MPH just doesn't cut it. I do like to slow crawl at times too so what would you guys recommend I throw into my scaler to make it a little bit more peppy without breaking things? Thanks in Advance."thumbsup"

Ya I got that motor I'm using a castle esc with it and a 3 cell lipo I just put a bigger pinion gear on it think is like an 18 tooth the tricky part was that I had to take apart the r2 trans. To put the pinion on but mine fling the mud now and much more speed

I have that trans but in the heavy duty version.

I have ran a 13.5 brushless with a mmp, a vxl combo, and now currently running a Brxl with a 27t motor. All combinations on 3s. Also running a 18t pinion.

All that being said, that tanny will never give you huge top-end, even with my 13.5 combo. However, I have never had a problem with wheel-speed, torque, or pep. My HH 27t motor will only push that tranny to about 8mph, however it gets to that top-speed very quickly. And when you are in the trails or in between gates, it's actually pretty quick. And it has all the low end grunt that you would ever need.

I was a little concerned about top end as well when I first got it, because I was testing it in a wide open space, but once it was in a trail situation it was fine.

Hope this helps.

I run the Novak 21.5 brushless, Velineion (waterproof),13t pinion, stock spur, and a 3s. This set up has held up well on my scaler (water/mud/sand) and will sling some mud.

Thanks for the info guys. the only other metal pinion I have is a 15t. I do have an 18t plastic one that came with my slash 4x4, but I don't want to shred that one up.

Run the 15 tooth with the 12T motor. What batteries are you running?

Also, you have a 18T plastic pinion? Never heard of that.... hmmm.

Ok. What kind of performance should I expect with the 12 turn?

I think that the spare pinion that came with my slash was plastic. At least it seemed like it was. Had no shine to it. seemed pretty light compared to the stock 13t.

for what it's worth i have that transmission in my scaler with a 27 turn motor in it powered by a 3800 stick pack.

I have run that trans in 2 different scalers. If you are going to run it with 3s I wold recommend the velineon motor. One it is waterproof so if you get into the muck it will be fine. 2 With that trans and on 3s you can get 15mph out of it even with that 15t pinion. I ran that same set up (16t pinion) at our g6 here this summer and I was outrunning most of the wraiths.

I forgot to post up that I'm running 2200 3s Lipos through the traxxas VXL3s ESC. If I were to run the Velineon 3500 will it cog when I'm trying to creep?

on the vxl runn a 2 cell 2200mili amp battry it an turn it to training mode it wont creep but it will work ok an ther is no drag brake it....
