Does anyone else watch this show? Do any of yu consider yourself a "Prepper"?
It has made me think about things alittle and has made my wife ask some unique questions.
Being a 74D, some of the things I see some of them do for chemical and nucular protection kinda makes me lol.
What are yalls thoughts?

All I need is ammo... I can get whatever I want the old fashioned way.

The fabric of society is SO thin that I think many people have no clue how little it would take to rip apart society as we know it. Just imagine some event that stops the flow of food to the supermarkets. All hell would break loose after a couple days. What about a week without power? Major cities would be a war zone.

opsec... :)

Yea i know the first rule, but back to the show.Deep Earth is making a butt load of money since the show aired but it wont do any good when all forms of banking will go down the crapper

He has never said that he buys into all the hup-lau. Id say that he is banking on the world not ending long after he is gone. That should set his kids up for life. I just hope he has some good collection agent, most of them may not be able to pay it off.

I dont watch this show. But Ive been hearing alot of talk lately about how quickly the world as we know it could go all bad(not really related example but, Obama actually made it into office lol). So Ive been giving some thought as to how far a "sensible" person should go to be prepared just in case.

i've thought about it, i plan on at least getting a few cases of bottled water and tons of ammo. if nothing else it's just an excuse to buy more guns and ammo

Lots of guns or lots of ammo?
Think about it, the more guns you have the more types of ammo youll need and the more means of transporting or storing them.
I gave this some thought, One side arm, 9mm. One 12ga shot gun. One long range or assalt rifle.(im thinking M16 5.56)

These are some of the most common sizes and will be some of the most commonly used and easly found. The 9mm is issued by Mil and by Police, and the 12ga is the most common hunting shell there is. And a 5.56 can shot the .223. This all just makes sense to me.
Also thought about using a old 6.2 cutve. It can run on anything.

both guns and ammo ;-) planning on getting a pump action shotgun and a 380 pistol.

Id like to add a couple more 9mm pistols(need at least one for the Wife), alot more ammo and a shotgun. Ive also considered picking up a bow for situations where the sound of gun fire might draw unwanted attention. But getting a nice one properly set up can be expensive.

Ive also wondered if it would be worth keeping an old 4wd truck/suv around in case there was need to pack the family up and head to another location. Nothing fancy, just a simple no frills truck thats easy to work on. Im thinking carb'd small block chevy/turbo 350 combo.

They; just like any other will run on anything. When the grid goes down and there isnt any electricity all youll have to do is pull up to a abandond car and drain the oil: walla more fuel.

Lights Out
One Second After

both great books. forget the authors off the top of my head

Personally i think it will be collapse of the dollar or and EMP that will take us down................however i am still praying for Zombies!!!"thumbsup"

Not just a collapse of the dollar, the collapse of fiat currencies as a whole compounded by huge debt and defaults. The banking system is completely intertwined throughout the world.(on purpose IMO) Those cut off from "the system" the most will more than likely fare the best.

Thats fine if your by yourself and have no weapons that malfunction or are lost/stolen.

If society is in the shitter the last thing I'm going to want to do is run around looking for ammo. Have what you need and be able to make more if at all possible however I realize with ammo and component costs what they are it can be tough to afford.

You may of saw them but below are cool vids on making "cut shells" and "improvised shells". Basically it shows how to turn elcheapo birdshot loads into "slugs" for larger game and other purposes.
