traxxas electric 4tech rally conversion?

there is a guy down the street from me selling a bone stock old electric 4 tech. i was interested for $40. i was wondering if there was a rally conversion kit for it or the best way to convert it. i think though, if there isnt, i am not going to get it.:ror:
 
Find some shocks that are longer than stock or drill holes so you can set the appropriate ride height, make some shields for the belts, and put tires on... What more do you need for a rally car?
 
If I remember correctly, the 4tec is belt driven. Belts are not the best rally drivetrain as rocks like to get jammed in the belts.
 
It is belt driven, which personally would worry me. But Grizzly 4x4 has been using one all rally season with us and doesn't seem to have had any issues whatsoever. For 40.00 I say go for it. It will get you a car cheap that from what I have seen works pretty darn good on and off tarmac.

As far as what he did to make it a rally car, I don't think he has done much besides making some splash shields and getting some rally tires.

Its funny you should say that because Tamiya is now coming out with a rally specific car that is belt drive.

Generally I would totally agree with you, but if there is a way to keep rocks out of the belts there shouldn't be any issues.

yeah, it is belt driven. it has a stinger motor but i cant figure out where the esc is. there is just this round black thing that the motor wires lead into. i am still kind of thinking about it, but i am leaning on the side of getting it.:ror: it is good condition, tires in good condition, he ran it for me when i looked at it, all the belts looked like new and same with the gears. i am selling a bunch so maybe i will do it.:roll:
 
Funny that I just stumbled across this thread... I have had a old 4tec sitting around for years that I just brought back to life as a drifter. Could be fun as a rally car. :)

Sounds like you might have a 4-Tec with the mechanical speed control in it. You can swap the diffs and arms from the Nitro 4-Tec on to the electric and IIRC, there are longer shoxk shafts that are available that you should be able to swap into the stock shocks and come with the optional Big Bore shock for the 4-Tec's. Considering what a pita the stock front knuckles can be, I would recommend the aluminum front knuckles too.

Wow that Tamiya looks sweet, really not a lot of work to convert a street car to rally. Still waiting to see a Traxxas X0-1 rally.

Tamiya rally blocks are the easiest to get and work pretty well in several conditions. For wheels Im not sure what offset you need. But I am always a fan of Tamiya WRC focus wheels.

As far as the shocks are concerned I would wait on it till you get your tires and wheels, something around 3/4" of belly clearance looks and works pretty well. More then that and it starts to look weird. You also maybe able to get away with keeping the shocks on there by changing out to a little bit longer of a rod end. It really just depends on your driving style.

Sweet rig. Thinking about getting an old 4-tec on Ebay and going rally Colorado-style with it.
