Looking at getting a new drill

I need a new drill for work. I do maintenance for a apartment company and I need a new drill but I can't decide what to get.

I want it to be 18v li-ion the more compact the better. I like the dewalt and Milwaukee sets but I've herd good things about rigid and ryobi brands.

What do u guys think the best 18v drill out there is.

A buddy bought the Makita 18v drill and drywall driver. Pretty nice set...lots of power, fairly light.

I use the Makida set and it is awesome. Make sure you get an impact drill. Best investment ever. You will probably never use your regular drill to drive screws again.

I've heard nothing but good things about Ryobi. I have a friend who's an electrical contractor and he told me just a few days ago actually that his old Ryobi cordless has outlasted three of his Milwaukee sets.

I've always liked dewalt but the last few years the quality seems to have gone down hill. I have a ryobi 12 volt li-ion drill right now and its nice but I want something with a little more power.

Used to have a regular Ryobi hammer drill that I used but I later sprung for the Ryobi impact driver. It will drive a 3 inch screw THROUGH a 4x4! I think it depends on what you do more of. You have to buy the special bits for a impact since you can't use just a regular drill bit (no chuck). If you do more with screws than drilling holes then get an impact and never look back. I've had my Ryobi for about 4 years w/o problems.

Dose ryobi have a package deal like dewalt with their hammer drill and impact?

Not that I know of, but I haven't looked at any for a few years now. Actually I think Home Depot has a pick 2 deal or something where you can pick 2 of any Ryobi tools for a combo price or something.

I'll have to go up there and look. Last time I was up there they where telling me how great the ridged stuff was. I just like that that has a life time warranty

I just bought the 18V LXT Makita set. I used it to help build a new driver's stand for the local RC club. A buddy was using his older DeWalt 18V NiMH driver and he was kicking my ass at driving in screws. He was going probably twice as fast. Another guy had an 18V Li-Ion Makita Sawzall that could barely get through some 2x6 pressure treated lumber but this guy's old DeWalt NiMH 18V sawzall ripped through it like butter.

Yeah my dad owns a lot of older dewalt stuff and it all works great but he bought a new cordless drill not to long ago and he's having problems with the battery.

Ive got the dewalt drill/impact combo, works great, just wish the batteries didnt cost so much. What I like about the Dewalts, the batteries I have for my 5yr old drill will fit any tool they make today.

i bought dewalts 18v 1/2 hammer drill and 6" saw combo 10 years ago and it still going strong....i'm on my 2nd set of batteries since 3 years ago....i used mine when i was working maintance for the community i lived in and they seen some hard use "thumbsup" .........bob

....

Makita or Metabo are the only drills I'll buy. I still have an 18v Nimh Makita from 2003 that has been used hard and is still ticking. Am still using the two original battery packs as well.
