I run Hitachi and Dewalt lithium ion's in my wood shop... the preference is the Hitachi

I love my Hitachi 18 volt li dril. Longest lasting drill I have ever owned. Batteries are over 5 years old and still work great. I have had 2 rigid's, a Dewalt, and now a skill drill to keep in my tool bag for work. All bought after my Hitachi, and all the batteries have died, but the Hitachi keeps going.

I know you are wanting 18v, but the Craftsman 12v "Nextec" stuff is awesome ( Milwaukee sells the same stuff but changes the battery terminal locations). I used DeWalt 18v for years, and switched this past year, it is so nice having such a lightweight drill. I'm a Handyman and use it daily. I got a drill and impact set for $75, with battery and charger. I was leary at first and kept my DeWalt in the truck too, just incase they didn't have the power, but after a month of use they never failed any use I had for them. The DeWalt is now in a dust corner of my shed.

I bought a Dewalt DCD760 1/2" 18V compact Lithium-ion in Jan 2011
very light weight, but a bit top heavy (when setting down, falls over easy)
batteries charge up in 15 min8)
I think it was $175 came with 2 batt., charger & case
We have been Dewalt fans for 7 years NP"thumbsup"

Milwaukee 18v lithium ion hammer drill...settings for drilling, screwing and hammering/drilling in concrete or masonry. Found mine on sale at Home Depot for $199(regular $299), comes with 2 batts and charger. Light, compact and packs a punch"thumbsup" The comparable Dewalt version was $299.
