Headphone listeners

Okay, so I discovered yesterday that my Sony MDR V700 DJ headphones that I use more or less as monitors for music production are broken. Someone that was at my house a couple weeks ago broke the piece that connects the swivel to the headband, so they're pretty well useless now. Tossed them in the trash last night.

So any recommendations for a decent set that are $150 or less?
 
There's all kinds of headphones out there for $150 or less. You gotta narrow it down to what your priorities are. Monitoring your top priority? Or pleasing sound? And what kind of sound, tilted towards the highs, or the mids, or the low end? Or as neutral as possible? Open back, or sealed? Portability? Etc., the list goes on, and it's hard to just outright name a good HP for $150 not knowing what you want and like.
 
Looking for something strictly for monitoring, so probably pretty neutral. I need to be able to hear everything equally so I know what levels to adjust. Only need them late at night, or when we have company and I don't feel like socializing. The rest of the time I just use my BX5A monitors, which aren't great, but get the job done.
 
Got my new toy today. Sennheiser's brand spanking new HD 700. I have the 600 and 800s, and felt compelled to get these.

How about just about $3k in headphones? :afro:

Edit: Okay, so after reading their suggestions there, I think I'm going to snag a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50 studios. Seems to be a pretty good bang for the buck and of course they look trick. Now the only question is: Coiled of Straight.

My Brainwavz m1s showed up today and all I can say is wow... they sound amazing compared to what I had before you can actually tell there's music not just bass. Good thing I ordered them anyway my skullcandys decided to break on me a couple days before. Would not reccomend skullcandys to anyone ever again these would be my first choice.

Congrats on the M1. I'm with ya about Skullcandy as my old Jibs died in one channel in a short amount of time, but I was pulling on the cord numerous times a day to hear what my coworker was asking. Since then, I've learned to pull more on the headphone, and less on the cable. I also wear them over the ear now. I shared that tip with coworkers and ours are surviving longer. That being said, I still have a NIB Jib that's probably a couple few months old as back ups for my Ink'd pair. They do decent bass, a little overzealous with it, but it's not bad. The rest of the spectrum is not very good though. But I work in a warehouse that has equipment making about an average of 87 db all day! My iPod volume is a notch or two below half and I can barely hear the 87 db of noise. That's nice and easily worth the ~$13 I paid for them.
 
So I decided it was time to replace my 25-year-old phono cartridge :lol: Guy at the local hi-fi shop said try a Sumiko Oyster. Budget price (80 bucks) so I figured what the hell.

Jesus, I didn't know vinyl could sound this bad :x We're talking Close-n-Play quality here. Went back and said I wanted something decent. Settled on an Audio-Technica AT440MLa. Now that's a sweet cart, even on the inner grooves.

Been busy on a little side project I call the Recyclotron 8000's:

Cabinets are recycled (hence the name) Fishers with new front panels and a shit ton of internal bracing. Drivers are 10-inch Chinese woofers, Pioneer FB sealed-back mids and Infinity EMIT tweets. Mids and tweets came from ebay so they're recycled, too. And they actually sound damn good! Clarity and detail out the gazoo, I'm hearing a lot of stuff in familiar music for the first time "thumbsup"

Such the catch phrase that is, but I've found it to be true sometimes, but only when there's a weird peak in the upper mids, lower treble area, or mid bass humps. Stuff sticks out more than ever before, because something is wrong. Like my new Sennheiser HD 700 headphones.
 
Hey EEPEE, on my brainwavz the left ear I believe started to give out because I can barely hear it when the right is at full volume. I tried them in different players but it was the same story. Should I invest yet in another pair or try and fix them? Maybe return them on the year warranty? Any tips on having them last longer?

I just lost another set of Skullcandy Ink'd in ears. The cord caught something and it got yanked out of my pocket and the iPod. Lost the left side. If I wiggle it, it'll work, but am I gonna go through the shipping costs and process and waiting game for another $13 pair of headphones? No.

Yours are more expensive, so that's up to you.

Tips? Don't pull on the cord. Don't pull on the cord at the connector going into the iPod or whatever, and don't pull on the cord going into the headphone. Make sure you grab the headphone, if you can. That seems to be what has helped me and a couple coworkers get longer life out of a daily used in ear.

No I just had one in and had it turned up all the way and couldn't hear it. I have a couple more pairs and they always just have one ear that goes out and I end up replacing them with another pair. I might take the time to ship them and wait for another. And just get a cheap pair while I'm out of town.
