i want to make a set of the large dome style hubcaps you would see on many old style hot rods what would be a good way to go about this? i was thinking of altering a set of axial hubs and gluing them inside of a dish that may work, but not sure if that is the best method. i also dont have a dish in mind for this just a thought.

like the moon hub caps?

once you get the wheels in..
measure the area you wanna cover..
and go from there..

your on the right track.."thumbsup"

I think Microgoat used the bottom of a pop can or simular to pull it off in one of his builds.

Thinking about it, I beleive he used the bottom of the can to make the contour of the wheel/rim combo.

for domed moondiscs best raw material is the bottom off PS spraycans

cans are thick though, takes a while to depressurise & crack them open then cleanup.
(but you do get a neat pair of glass marbles) ;)

a lot of good ideas here, some i think would be to small, and the monster caps would be the wrong shape. they are not a complete dome. i see that no one disagrees with the axial hubs what would be the best way to attach them? jb weld?

I'll be watchin' where this goes. I'm building a vintage 60's Shasta camper trailer. Going with RC4WD 1.5 steelies & Tamiya scorcher front tires. Just about gave up on a scale baby moon.... but some good ideas here.

I like the bottom of the spray paint can but cutting them might be a pain... Lowes might have some little chrome caps in the miscelaneous drawers... as someone mentioned.

what bout metal CO2 air cartrages, cut the bottom off the size you want/need and braze a 4mm nut to it to go over your wheels locknut and crank it down "thumbsup" ........bob

....

you may look into finding some tamiya m04 rims for the volkswagen beetle. they would work well for what you want.
