Ive Got some super XLD axles I believe are 38:1 any one have suggestions for motor (35, 45, 55? ) and gearing ?

Thanks

With that gearing, you'll probably want 55T motors.

However, you can always upgrade to the 65:1 lightweight gearboxes for fairly cheap. Those will give you better options for motors and pinions....and you'll now have the HD gears that use set screws instead of pins.

Do you run 55t's in your Berg?

I only had one issue with stalling my rig at Nats, but I don't feel bad since it was in that gate 10 that was a hole you had to push the truck through in order to get progress...

I'm running berg cases with 45t's (dual mags, laydown brushes, 10mm comm, big wire and skewed arms) and 8" rovers "thumbsup"

i guess thats what I'm trying to gather information in order to decide. From the past couple posts though, It looks as though I'll be leaning toward 45t's. "thumbsup"

Same here, I may try some lower turns for the hell of it just to see what happens, maybe 40t will do the trick on a Super light rig?

What are/were your tire heights respectively? I'm changing things up a bit and one of those things is going to be dropping my beloved 65:1 cases.
Current setup is 8.5lbs....the bully was HEAVY....like 10ish or so.

I said what I did earlier because, personally, I dont like to be limited to running a specific pinion because of the rest of the gearing....and I felt that way with my 38:1bullys. I have a little more wiggle room with my bergs and 45Ts.

45ts are plenty fast...of course thats on 4S

I was wondering if that was part of the mix. :ror:

The berg axles have the same gear ratio as Bully 2.2's. So, what makes the berg have more wiggle room?

Yeah, they are about 36:1 or so, IIRC. The wiggle room comes from my 45T motors. I can also find 9T pinions for them....which was not possible with any bully gearcase and the proprietary pinions offered by RC4WD.

Gotcha...HMMMM

Why would you drop the 65:1 boxes? Weight? To me it seams like the 65:1 gears are what makes the bully's a better option than the bergs? Eric got my 4 65:1 gears lighter than my 3 drilled 2.2 38:1 gears. And he took almost 1.5oz out of the case. It's basically 3oz lose for gear case and gears PER axle! And the extra gear pushes the motor back enough you can fit a 7990 with his tubes without any grinding. So to mount the servo where you have yours, I think you can get the axle lighter with the 65:1 cases?

This is with bearings.

Yeah, that is the plan. I figure Everyone with a berg/XR/Ti-fighter is running a gear ratio in the high 30's:1. I think with the motor/esc capabilities nowadays we dont need to rely on the super low gear ratio. This is an experiment, If I hate it, I'll go back to 65:1's or other.

That doesnt seem possible. The lightweight 2.2 case is the same material, physically smaller and there is one less gear. If I do all the same weight reduction to both cases/gearsets, the 2.2 gearbox should be considerably lighter.
