In less than one week is the 2013 Goat Hill Scale Team Challenge. I sit here today without a running 2.2 scale rig, crazy to think! I sold the Jimmy’s 4×4 Ultra4 Wraith last week and that has put me in a position to fill the void. The day I sold the rig I spared no time getting everything on the way to build my ultimate Wraith PERFORMANCE (and style) truck for G6 style events. I’m going to introduce you to my parts list and my thinking behind why this rig will be my take on the ULTIMATE G6 Rock Racer, the conception of “Hit and Run.”

This truck will start as an Axial Ready-to-Run Wraith Rock Racer, hands down my favorite RC to ever hit the market. By the time the flag drops for the event, you will be stretching to recognize it.

Parts List:
  • Starting with a stock RTR.
  • VP Currie Axles (Possibly 4WS)
  • VP Wraith knuckles

The 2013 Goat Hill Scale Team Challenge will be the second major event we've ran at this venue. The course is probably near a half mile of rock and dirt trails.

Some modifications have been made to the course from last year. I ran my heavy steel chassis rig last year. The weight and bias was a hindrance. To be more competitive I would need something that was setup a little different.

We run the event in teams of 2. No hand of God is about the only rule. We keep it light and fun. Last year we had a great turn out and hope to improve on that this year with quite a few more out-of-towners.

Here are a couple videos about the event.

The drivetrain under this truck will be as best of the best as I can put together.

At the heart will be my bombproof transmission that was built with SuperShafty.com parts.

I will also be transplanting my Currie axles under this truck.

Inside them I'm running the prototype Vanquish Extreme Duty Bushings. These prevent you from blowing up the ring and pinion gears when running big brushless power.

The chassis is really my biggest mindset change on this truck. My last truck was heavy and all about style. This truck is going to mix performance and style. Jerry @ the DMG has been my goto guy for chassis work for years now.

Jerry gave me the original Stiffy Kit to use on my very first Wraith.

Original Stiffy Kit:

The light weight aluminum adds rigidity and allows for style and suspension changes. The new Stiffy Kit I will be using changes the appearance of the Wraith immensely. I will be picking up these pieces tonight and can't wait to show off the difference it makes.

The DMG Stiffy Kit will allow me to use 4" shocks while still lowering the ride height from stock. Many people use the small scale shocks but those are not what in would call a quality performance shock. They don't have the piston surface area to properly dampen a truck this size at speed.

I will be using 4" Powerstroke shocks for the rear of a Slash. I have had great luck with these shocks and see no reason to switch.

The electronics in this rig will again be only the best. I will be running 4 wheel steer on this truck eventually, I may not have time to get the parts in before this event.

My steering servos will be dual Futaba BLS157. These put out over 500 oz/in of power from a standard size case. These servos have been amazingly reliable for me.

My Motor and ESC will be as stated above, the Tekin ROC 412 3100kv and driven by the Castle Mamba Max Pro. I'll be waterproofing this system as well and will be covering my methods on that.

Lastly, my favorite part, the TziWorld.com Beefy Winch.

I wish I could do builds like this. Harley you are top notch. When do you think those bushings will be available? Vanquish is awesome with there products little pricey but we do get sweet quality

I think we have proven them enough and they will roll them out soon. We made one small change was all. Looking at replacing the bearings in the knuckles as well. I blow up the big bearing in them every once in awhile as well.

Chafing will short circuit and possibly burn up the winch.

I can't believe on build of this level its so hmmmhmmm. Lucky for us rtv will isolate vibrations as well as water proof.

I think this is prototype so well most likely see it with a grommet later on.

You using the platinum gtr slash shocks? Or standerd big bores

I'm running oilites in the knuckles with good results.

Looking forward to these bushings it the market but afraid they're price point may be on vps high end.

Really sign the beefy tranny

The RTV will handle any issues, but even with 15 hours of run time sitting in a truck you can't even see any marks on the insulation as is. I'm pretty sure this is a publicly available version.

I'm using Proline shocks, dual rate shocks. Super nice quality shocks. I've been so pleased with them over the past 2 years. Never rebuilt the set I was running that whole time, still 90% full of oil too. I bought new 4" versions for this one though.

I'm not sure where the price point will be but these will pay for themselves quickly if you're running the Traxxas. They wear out so fast that replacement cost really was adding up for me.
