Battery Survey... NiMh or LiPo?

I know there are videos of lipo fires, but has anyone but me ever seen a nimh cell blow out the side of a rig? They really don't care what's in front of them; they just break through chassis, panels, and bodies and then keep flying

If huge price difference, you would probably want the cheaper DC power input.

I use one of these to charge my batteries when I don't know what power source is available. I got it for 25 bucks used.

It does ac or dc input. Charges up to 3s. I either plug it into a wall or use the alligator clips and use my car battery.

Yep.

Lipo = blow torch

Nimh = bomb

I also returned to the hobby and still remember how cool NMH were so I went that route and spent a fortune on 5-5000mh packs to last me a day of crawling. As I slowly read up and got educated on Lipo's my need for more run time inspired my upgrade. My first reservation was hearing of the hazards specifically fire! Well, there are some things you need to know when using lipos, first is you should have a charger that is designed for them and don't forget to balance the cells. Next is make sure they are properly discharged before recharging. Also make sure you have a voltage cut off programmed in your esc because if you go below the minimum voltage you are tempting "lipo fire" Most important is read and understand the directions and understand what battery you are operating and it's components. Yeah as stated by most replies, Lipo is a HUGE improvement over NMH just as the NiCad.

It was more of a nicad thing. Nimh cells were brought into rc because they have a low memory.

Nicad has more memory than Nimh, sure. You still benefit from cycling Nimh. Since that was the last chemistry that did benefit and the topic of this thread I chose it.

isnt NiCad illegal in Canada....like long ago?
and i still have a good half-dozen NiMh kicking around used as book-stops. lol
