American Graffiti

I turned 44 in September and just today watched AMERICAN GRAFFITI for the first time. Enjoyed it very much. Lots of cool cars. I also learned about THX 138
Amusing looking back on some of the actors and how young they (looked)were in the movie.

One of my all time favorite movies, they got it all right, cars, girls, music, scenery....you name it and it's very funny/entertaining!

I've always had a soft spot for old movies like this. It's in my collection with Aloha Bobby And Rose,
Running On Empty and To Live And Die In L.A.

In Running On Empty they wreck a GTHO falcon.I Saw one sell here a few years back for about
$800,000. lol.

My Dad and I built a 56 Belair Sedan while I was in middle and high school. He sold the car when I went to college.. He died 8 months later.
I still see the car locally and am hoping one day it can be mine.
So, I've always had a soft spot for the tri-5 Chevys. Dad had a 57 when I was born and I always liked the simplicity of the 55s..

An interesting article I found about the 55 Chevy. The 1955 Chevy - Unofficial American Graffiti Homepage
The car(s) originally starred in Two-Lane Blacktop (Starring a VERY young James Taylor)
The cars were purchased and used in American Graffiti.

And for you guys that love Milner's car.. Here you go..

"THX1138" was from 1971 and was George Lucas's first major hit movie.

He has since grown fond of dropping the THX138, THX or 1138 throughout his movies. From droid number in Star Wars, to prison cell numbers, appearing on computer screens, storm trooper suits, gate numbers, and several other hidden (and not so hidden) back scene locations in all of his other Star Wars sequel films.

Including other films such as the license plate on Milners coupe as THX138, 1138 appears in the last seconds of the film "george Lucas in Love" as Lucas' college dorm room address, the movie Maniac Mansion has an Edsel with the license plate "THX1138", mindbenders has a phone bill total showing $1,138, the Hot Rod car in the beginning of Indiana Jones license plate is THX138, the wing number on the plane in that movie is also THX138.... He hid it a LOT throughout his films in homage to his first big success film THX1138.

He also has a thing for dropping the number "327" throughout his films, but not sure the history or meaning to that one.

Yes, I am a Lucas fan.

Here's a couple photos from a Car show we saw in Bangor Maine on our way to the Nationals...Wednesday Cruis'n local Diner...

I watched Two Lane Blacktop then American Graffiti last night.

Two Lane is much more my style.

Haven't seen Two-Lane Balcktop in a LONG time. Might have to watch that while I'm working on some drawings tonight.

Here's a pic of me and my dad back in the 70's I think I was 3 or so in this pic . This was Michigan ( were I'm from) . He worked at Gm . And was a hardcore street racer. He bought this 4 door for parts , but it ended up being faster than shit and taking lots of money . I remember at least 5 gasser style cars in the back yard . And his hardy chassis tube framed vega street car nobody wanted any of . But they always wanted some 4 door . Suckers.:flipoff:

Sorry to jump off track here but I know what your saying about the four doors!!! My pops had a 1971 plymouth duster 340,nothing crazy just a few hop up's but he would smoke about 90% of the big blocks he raced.well he was racing in some comp at one of the old drag strips around here and made it to the finals where it was just him and basically a junk four door 57 buick.well lets say he got his arse handed to him:lmao:

I saw this movie years ago that I have no clue the name of now. I just remember they were racing hotrods of different variations. I remember the main guys had to steal parts off of some hotrod from a museum to get their car to race and at the end they could barely make the car run because they had taken the stolen parts and returned them. Not much to go on I know but maybe it will strike a bell with someone.
