Homemade Snowblower

Man you must have been pretty desperate to not shovel the driveway huh? Lol I have to say I'm impressed. Simple design and yet functional, and doing it yourself.... well good for you man. I would have to agree with going with a higher voltage, sounds like it bogs down quite a bit once you get snow in it. Step up the voltage and you'd really move some snow! How many volts are the motors rated for? If we had snow down here in FL I would build one too, maybe put it in front of a Super Duty body? How bad ass would that look!? Very cool man!

The motors should be good up to 10v or so. I'm a little worried about the impeller fins bending at higher rpms. Snow experiences more acceleration so more force on the fins. I'm still going to cautiously up the voltage. Wish I had $ for a Tow/Plow rig but this kid doesn't have a job. Base rig started as an Exceed Maxstone 16 crawler :lmao:

Awesome work. Just don't loose a finger! I made one a few years ago and it was wild.

Right now I'm trying to see if using gearboxes/motors from pololu.com (like the 90deg used here) would have enough torque/speed for what I might build or if I will go with a chain/sprocket drive, using parts from a duratrax motorcycle.

This thread has got my brain working hard!
 
Just had a thought after looking at my snowblower in the garage. On that the impelled and auger are driven off a single shaft. It runs from the motor in the rear, through the impeller into a diff that gives the 90deg into the auger shafts. If I could find a small even diff I think I could do the same thing for a snowblower. A single motor driving it all.

I wonder if a mrc axle would work. Needs to be small enough so that the auger can work around it and still feed snow to the impeller for discharge.
 
So I took a couple minutes and drew up what I'm seeing in my head. If I get around to building something I'll be sure to post up.

I think a mrc diff would work fine for the gear box. I saw someone make a PTO winch out of one. How ever I think a 280 motor will be underpowered. Perhaps at 370 or maybe even a 540. How big are you thinking of making it. Also, I looked up the speeds of the impeller speeds and auger speeds. I dont remember them but it seems like a mrc diff wont slow down the auger enough
 
That is truly impressive! Well done! Just one suggestion..From a scale perspective, I would have pointed the arm towards the passenger side, because obviously the driver wouldn't want the spray coming across the windshield in his face.:shock:
