Still have to dive into it and start building. Lots of decisions will be made based on fit. Hope it goes well. Should be a challenging build. My goal is to build a very scale, off-road wagon. Only time will tell.

Yay !!! Another one. I like the color of yours better.

Here is mine on a stock scx10 chassis I did a couple months ago, its my favorite rig. I also installed a Common Sense light kit plus the roof lights.

Good luck with the build, I will be following this one for sure.

Rails mounted. Bent some metal to match holes of skid. Used two holes each side to attach to the tub. The bracket will be cleaned up during final assembly. Body fit back on nicely. Ends of frame should still allow for attachment of metal bumpers. Goal is to use as much of the tub as posiable. Happy with the progress tonight.

Semi related 1:1 wagon ramblings:
You can adapt the Mercedes diesels to Toyota transmissions. If I ever find a good 80s 300td I'm going to pull the trans, dual cases, and straight axles out of my 1:1 Toyota crawler and swap them into the 300td. That would be wheeling in style.

One tip for you, as I found from my build, expect to cut out the front wheel wells and modify the front wheel arches. I tried and tried to keep the fronts but had rubbing during flexing. Saving that for the very end, I just got out the dremmel and shaved little by little till the rubbing went away. The rear wheel wells and arches are untouched except I shaved off the original barbie wheel holder nub things.

I mounted my body completely different than you're setup, but I did have to revert to the reverse body post at the front to keep it aligned.

If you choose to install a light kit, you will lose a lot of screws that hold a bunch of things together like the light housings and how they stay in the body as well as the front bumper, honestly hot glue will be your best friend here.


I'm curious to see you're use of the lower tub, I cut mine off right at the beginning, but I kept the lower door cladding.

Ya I already had to change my tire choice. What tires did you use? How tall? I've ordered the MTZ in 1.55. They are 3.3" tall. I'm going to do my best to keep the wheel wells. Having the inner fenders is a big goal on this build. Hopefully it'll work out.

I have the Tamiya rims and rock crusher tires (1.9) from my High lift. They are 3 & 1/2 inches. I have about half of the front inner wells.

If you don't mind, I can post a couple of pics of the fronts.

Wow, super cool looking project! I've never seen this body before, can't believe there's TWO of these on an scx10 chassis. Will be watching this one. Good luck with the progress.

Volvo night didn't go so well. Tried to c-notch the inner fenders. Didn't go as planned. I'll just fill the inner fender with some aluminum. Oh well. One of many set backs to come. No big deal.
In the end the redo will work out for the best. It'll be much easier to do the c-notch in the aluminum panels, off the car.

The joys of custom builds !!

You should invest in a dremmel/rotary tool at this point. Harbor freight, Wal mart, big lots.... $15-30. Even a cheapo one will do wonders.

I think it took me 3 weeks to get mine done. 3hrs a day mon-fri, and the weekends were hit and miss for time. When you're done though, it will all be worth it. I honestly don't know why I like mine so much. The tires are rock hard, the rear bounces like it is on leafs and it's not all that capable.

It trails very well, it looks cool driving. I uploaded some pics to PB, but they haven't posted yet.

Note to self; use doll house dresser to hide electronics in rear cargo area. Also, pat yourself on the back for another great idea.
