Thanks Shane.Rig is looking better all the time. So much detail to check out.
I thought about doing that but they're aluminum and don't like to hold the rust very well. I don't want to get it in the recesses for the bolts because it would cause issues removing the rings. I'm still experimenting with it though. Over the course of the next year or so it'll get rusted worse as I drive it. Next I'm going to find a way to oxidize portions of the clear coat so the contrast isn't so bad between the high gloss finish and the rusted portions.I say put a little bit of rust on the bead rings too.
The rust really does look like it fits on there man!
Thanks guys.I'm not big on rust but when it's done right it's awesome. This is done right.

Thanks "thumbsup"This thing is Awesome with a capital "K"!
I agree, can't wait to get it!That looks like a nice bumper. I need to learn how to build them boxed in jobbies. Nice work ScalerFab.
Thank you sir "thumbsup". As for the rust mixture, I used mostly vinegar. I'd guess 5:1 mixture ratio. I also looked around for items around the yard that had severe rust to flake off in the mixture. I like multiple rust flake sizes. As for the steel wool, I just shredded it all and stuck it in the containers (make sure to get all of the soap out of the wool btw). After it has set long enough to fall apart I just pulled out the long fibers of SW that remained. Blend it with a little thinned out paint (very little). Then I taped a small paint bottle to my Sawzall's blade to mix the heck out of it. It makes a paint shaker of sorts. It's nasty looking at first, but once it dries out the orange-ish rust appears. You'll have to apply it in a few coats to get depth, but from what I'm finding so far it sticks just fine. Granted I haven't had a chance to trail run it or comp with it yet. I'll let you guys know if it's a permenant rust or if it needs to be reapplied every now and then.Truck and front bumper is looking killer brother"thumbsup". Tell me more about your rust solution? How much vinegar, bleach, sw do you use?
The electronics are all good. I encased them in waterproof epoxy like the manufacturers do and greased all of the plugs with di-electric grease. The first test run was a success. I'm not going to intentionally submerge the truck though. If the waterproof electronics get tested it'll be by accident. So if that ever happens I'll let you know how it worked out.Mate I just read all 10 pages in one go, thanks for the inspiration! Absolute Beast of a truck! I'm interested to see how the waterproofed electronics go (or went) especially the way you have done the rx with the grease
Tell me about it. I closed my eyes when I plugged it in, lol. Drove it around for a while to make sure it was all good and so far so good. Only time will tell if I have heat issues once I get on the trail, but with the heat sinks exposed I think it'll be ok. This Sunday may be the test as far as waterproofing and heat goes. I'm headed down to Greenville, KY to help a local club set up several C1,2,3 courses and the K5 will be put through the mill. Hopefully it all goes well.Whew, no magic smoke. Bumper looks right.
Lol, ok. THe leak is actually a decal on the floor of my "shop", but I'll settle for a oil leak. Anyone who has owned a old truck knows that if they stop leaking it's because they're out of oil . It's my way of changing the oil one drop at a time "thumbsup".there is a crack and hole taillight fix it kit for like 3 bucks at autozone later tonight I will take a picture of it. also in picture 3.. you seem to have a massive oil leak "thumbsup"
