Thinking about starting a garage build...

I have always liked the look of anything scale and I am just about finished with my Twin Hammers build. I was wondering if anyone on here has suggestions for what's best to use for walls. I want it to be sturdy so was thinking ply wood for walls sitting on 2x4's for a base. For size thinking somewhere between 3-4' in length not sure on height and width. This will be my first garage build and was wondering what material it is people use to make take and other scale items. I would like to try and make some of my items opposed to buying stuff online. Thanks for any help guys, and hope to be starting school thread of my own soon

You have quite a few choices, there are number of methods in the various threads below. "Scale wood studs" are awesome, plywood's been used, foam board is popular, I've seen an amazing faux cinder block wall made from styrofoam sheet. As your self if the garage can be left assembled or made somewhat move able.

I would like to create some type of a deck/loft, figured my LHS or Michaels would have the wood I will need for post & flooring. I have read about people using styrene, but haven't read much in to actually working with it. Any experience using that? Hoping to sit down this week and draw up some ideas.

I'll be following this as I've been playing with the idea as well. Hopefully it won't stay as messy as my real shop lol.

I plan on building one soon. My intentions are to use Sanded Plywood Panels for the structure of the box. You can usually buy these at Home Depot, Lowes, Menards etc. in 2'x2 and 2'x4' sizes. Everything else will be built from Basswood including the loft, wall studs, rafters (if I chose). Generally you can find Basswood strips in several sizes at a Hobby/Craft store like Hobby Lobby. Styrene is a good building material, but I would use it to only represent metal components like shelves and workbenches.

I know exactly what your talking about (sanded ply) that's what I had in mind and probably spray paint, or try and do some type of a brick texture. I am probably going to get some styrene soon and start playing around with it. Probably end up doing the same thing using it for shelves and work bences. eBay and my LHS have a lot of scale items.
